Go to this website http://mtapesdesign.com/instant-jpeg-from-raw-utility/, download this program, and you should be able to convert your RAW files to jpg in a batch process.

What software are you using? It many need to be updated to recognize the camera type.

Dennis, I'm not so sure you have tried all of the free programs out there? I have came across a few on cnet.com that are 100% free and comparing to cs5 and coral, these do just as good. I'm normally a nice person and hate to be rude, but some of the people here don't have the money to just toss out the window for a program on a DVD. Also I want to add that the new 300.00 HDR program that came out last month has a nice FREE match on CNET.com. Oh, and also CNET.com has a FREE "Raw to all" image converter that will help aslo Brandy. Sorry Dennis if I offended you in any way, I just don't see paying 500.00+ for a disk when you can download a really close match for free. Remember, most of the photographers on here are newbies and should start with something a little more user friendly.

It all depends on what a photographer wants out of his/her images! CS5 and Camera Raw does an excellent job. Volume processing, I like the controls in Breezebrowser (breezesys.com) For downloading, I am now using Lightroom 3 and CS5 for processing.(Breezebrowser doesn't work with the Canon 5D Mark II) I do not want to spend $$ for upgrades at this time! Just my two cents worth!

another thot-- check what file format your nikon is using--you may be able to "save as" tif or jpg and then be able to open them-hope that helps--also check your preferences folder and pick the file format that your nikon is using- your programs will only read what you have picked to be compatible.

Your Nikon program can convert the RAW files to jpeg files. Just adjust the exposure, color, contrast, etc and then save as jpeg. For most shooting, shooting in jpeg mode is sufficient. It has great quality and you don't have to convert the files. RAW gives you more information to work with, but is it worth the hassle? I only use RAW for portraits and weddings or if I know I may get a large print made. Anything for the web, jpeg is fine. A great free picture viewer that lets me view my Canon RAW files is IfanView. It is the best picture viewer I know of. I recommend it to everyone. If you get IrfanView, I recommend also downloading the plugins also. It's an auto install program.
