Cell Phone Self Portrait

I haven't posted in quite a while. I got bored with cleaning today and tried to take some selfies with the intention of doing some manipulations in photoshop. That didn't turn out so I grabbed a dress shirt and a tie to try a self-portrait.

I used window light softened by two scrims and balanced my Galaxy S10 on a cup.

The only editing I did was replacing the background in CS2--I resisted the urge to remove the scarring from a recent bout of shingles.

Good lighting, I think you did a good job. Glad you are recovered from the shingles!

Hey you can’t post that here! That’s not a real camera! Lol.
Really nice job! Lighting is pretty darn good. From a technical standpoint you should be very pleased with that image. I would like to see a comparable shot with a longer lens on a different camera just out of curiosity to see what kind of distortion there is from that focal length and sensor size by comparison. Well done! Thanks for sharing.

Really sharp, detailed as well lit. That is an amazing shot coming from that Gal S10.

An outstanding portrait in every way...except. The short focal length of the lens and the closeness of the lens to your face makes your head look larger than I'm sure it is in actuality. That said, outstanding work given the medium used.

Thank you.

It's been a little while since I've browsed the site. Haven't felt like shooting lately--well at least with my cellphone.
Today I finally bit the bullet and bought used equipment. I was looking at another D7100 or a D300 but remembering the damage that was done to my wrist with the last D7100 I had, I went with the smaller D3500. Also got a 50mm 1.8 and a Yongnuo flash.

Stellar choice of wardrobe... Green is an excellent compliment for nearly all ethnicities' skin tones...
And the tie has just the perfect balance of warm and cool greens...
btw, while I'm uncertain about CS-2 more recent versions of Photoshop have a Lens Correction Filter which allows for tweaking focal length perspective issues...

Sorry to hear you had a recent bout of shingles i.e. the varicella-zoster virus or more widely known as chickenpox which can enter your nervous system and lie dormant for years. Now the good news... Zostavax is a shingles vaccine which can reduced the risk of shingles by 51% and the risk of post-herpetic neuralgia by 67% (based on a large study of more than 38,000 adults aged 60 years or older).

Sadly the protection from this shingles vaccine lasts about 5 years. Case in point, vaccines have to be carefully tested to assure they are totally save... As with influenza vaccines some virus vaccines are typically at best 60 to 70% effective. Covid19 presents a huge challenge... and it is highly unlikely any vaccine will be 100% effective, albeit all approved for use by the FDA will have passed rigorous safety testing...

Bottom Line? Until an effective covid19 vaccine is available please be safe, practice social distancing and always wear a mask in public. These counter measures are effective (and are all we have until a covid19 vaccine is available).

Thank you for sharing hlmichel
Food for thought...
Stress is considered a prime trigger for the reemergence of varicella-zoster.
High Cortisol levels have a major negative impact on your immune system.
There are numerous peer reviewed medical journal articles on this.

Wishing you good health on your journey hlmichel
