"Multiple" is not necessarily the same as "many" or "some".

In this case, most likely (depending on the author).

Where it is excessively abused is in the area of newsrooms. They also prefer "season-ably" for seasonal. (I know, I know. They like their sentences to end with hard consonants and/or a hard stressed last syllable. "Soundbite" thing.)
