My sister who taught Navajo children on the Navajo reservation might not agree, too quickly. Over and over she saw the results of neglectful, alcoholic, abusive, addicted parents (where there were two) who never gave any sort of emotional, social or intellectual support and instead started these kids off in life as marginal sociopaths. Not always, but way too often.

Again confirming that "The teacher is not the problem". But your point is well taken and certainly valid.

Sorry; I didn't mean in any way to say the teachers are the problem. I interpreted the quote to imply that the kidsn (not the teachers) are the problem but in a lot of cases, you have to look beyond the children to the parents.

Yes. The kids are the problem due to bad parenting in most cases. The root cause can be traced to a number of issues. Many that are apparent, many are hard to pinpoint. Recently, I observed 2 small children 5 to 6 yrs old with their mother in one of our local department stores. These 2 children were running and actually pulling clothing off the rack and their mother's response was, "Don't do that." She was ignored by the children and she ignored the children's unacceptable behavior, and didn't bother to make them pick up the clothing or correct them in any way. What message did that send to the children. When these same two children have behavioral problems in school will this mother be quick to blame the teacher?

Thanks for your very wise perspective.
