I have a Canon M3 24MP mirrorless camera and I’m thinking to replace it with a Canon EOS 77D DSLR 24.2 MP. Any opinions or recommendations, please do not recommend a different brand I have been using Canon for over 25 year digital or film. Thank you.

I would look at the EOS RP also. The R series seems to be the way Canon is going for the future and they are bringing more lenses on line, both very expensive and moderately priced, all the time. I have an R and won't be going back to DSLR. There are supposed to be a couple of new R series bodies coming out this year. Might be worth it to wait and see what they are.

Thank you for your advice, since I have the M3 it will make sense to wait.

What are you trying to accomplish with this change? You didn't tell us what lenses you have, so without EF / EF-S lenses, just buying a DSLR body will not give you any image options without lenses for that body too; an idea that makes the change even more expensive.

The M3 is pretty highly rated APS-C mirrorless interchangable lens cameras (MILC). The EOS 77D would provide a larger body, as well a viewfinder and a body more appropriate for action. But, you didn't tell us what is driving your idea of changing.

Since you have Mirrorless already, why not move up to the M6 MK2 or EOS RP

I couldn't have said it better.
At $999.00 the Canon RP is amazing. It has focus stacking, time-lapse and a ton of low light capabilities. I have the Canon RP W/the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS Lens, and my Canon 5DIV W/Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens now stays behind in favor of my Canon RP travel/carry around rig.
Do yourself a favor and go to the Canon website and download the owner's manuals for both to see for yourself: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/eos-dslr-and-mirrorless-cameras/mirrorless/eos-rp?cm_sp=CSO-_-PFListing-_-EOS-RP and for the lens https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/product-finder/support-cameras?cm_sp=CSO-_-PFListing-_-eos_lenses_Camera_Listing#lenses-eos-lenses

The best response yet.
Do you know?
Is this Gas? If so, it will pass.
Is there a capability the 77D has that you want or miss from previous cameras?

Perhaps a real viewfinder?

I've had the 77D for almost 2 years. It is very light, I love the 24MP, upgraded from a 50D 16 MP. Uses a Smaller Ebel battery, but I've never had one quit during a day. I have 2 batteries. The Pentamirror is supposed to be npt s good as a penta prism. This is my 5th EOS camera, counting film, and I can't tell the difference.

I've got a 24mm pancake on it a lot. It is pretty stealthy, not as small as the M but very light. Great results at events. It mates well with EF, EF-S, Sigma and Tamron lenses. Focuses fast, plenty of points and easily BBF's.

I'd buy it again,
C

I bought my 77D two years ago. My purpose was to have a lighter, cheaper backup to my 5D IV for long hikes, climbs, backpacks, etc. I also wanted the top lcd screen, two control wheels and back button focus. It has performed great. In good light and medium focal lengths, the IQ is difficult to tell from the 5D. The caveat here is that mine gets a diet of L lenses. The one I use most with it is a 24-70 2.8L II. It looks like Canon is discontinuing it. It's no longer available at the Canon store but dealers still have it at a closeout price if 549. IMO, this may well be Canon's best value. It's less than many point ands shoots! However, if it's in your budget, I would check the RP out. It's getting rave reviews and, all other factors being equal, a full frame format has advantages.
