Weathered Wood - Split Rail Fence...plus r

When one lives in rural South Dakota “Social Distancing” and “Self Isolating” are quotidian, natural phenomena, requiring no purposeful thought. It isn’t until the FedEx delivery man, wearing a mask, sets a delivered package on the porch after vocally confirming, from more than the recommended 12-foot distance, the addressee’s identity and explaining why the requirement for signing for the package is waved that one gets a hint of what folk in regions of more densely populated areas are experiencing in this “Time of Corvid-19”.

And so, with awareness heightened of being in my evidently precarious ninth decade of life, I wonder who was coughing or sneezing in that aisle of the distant bookstore...In Seattle, actually... I do a Clorox wipe-down of the package, and then of the cover of the contained book, and safely discard the wrappings. After hand washing and a couple of dollops of hand sanitizer rubbed in till dry, I return to sorting through my image archives.

And here’s one image that surfaced for which critiques are welcomed and requested .

You all be safe and well.

Dave

I like it. However, just a thought - either stopping down or using focus stacking could have resulted in a photo with the vertical post also in focus, and, at least for me, that would be a better result.

Thanks,Dan,
I appreciate your looking and commenting. This was taken long before I was aware of stacking. And DOF was chosen, but not with great confidence... so I’m curious particularly re: that point.
Thanks again,
Dave

I like the picture.
Maybe try more depth of field and less.
Compare all three.

Thanks,Ken,
I’ll consider retaking this when again in the area with the options in mind.

See what this looks like in B&W since texture is the point and color is not important.

Hi, dat2ra,
Here ‘tis in monochrome.
An unarguably reasonable suggestion, but one I had tried before finally settling on color.
So let’s see how responses run? I’m certainly curious!

I like the color version, but this is most interesting how the light and shadow give it an ancient, almost prehistoric appearance. Color and B&W send two very different messages.

Hi, Plieku,I like idea of a “prehistoric” effect... but think I’ll have to ponder on it a bit before really grasping it... Thanks for commenting...I’m working on it....

I love the sharp focus on the knot on the rail --placed in a "third" area. I also like the way the rail leads you to the knot all the while sitting in soft focus. I also like the leaning vertical post adding to the feel that it's been there a while.

Nine times out of ten I would choose the color rendition. I love color. But in this image the color doesn't enhance any important detail or part of the shot. You intentionally blurred out the background, apparently to separate it from the subject and diminish it. It was a good move. Go with it. The color of the trees draws my eye to them, and so it is a distraction for me. Better to continue to diminish the background by going to B/W or monochrome IMAO.

Hi, Linda; you see the image pretty much as I envisioned it when I squeezed the shutter!
I’m glad for the reinforcement!
Thanks for commenting.

Hi, photoninja ,
I appreciate your commenting and do fully take your point regards B&W. Glad that you agree re: the big blur.
Best regards,
Dave
