Buying a Car from Home

It isn't easy buying a car from home. My son has been trying to buy a new Fit after a deer destroyed his 2019. There is one at a dealer just 17 miles away, but he needs a loan from the bank and insurance cards. Bank access is limited to the drive-up teller, the car dealer's showroom is closed, DMV is closed, and the insurance company is working with limited staff. He has all the info for the car, including VIN, but getting the insurance cards is now the hold-up. The insurance company will email them to those involved, but that's taking time.

The dealer will bring the car to the house to complete the paperwork - outside the house - and they have a supply of new license plates, so the closed DMV isn't a problem. My son is working at Lowe's, which is considered an essential store. After all, people have to buy their plants, seeds, and gardening tools. Ridiculous! I'm driving him back and forth to work every day.

Studies have shown that people are not being good about staying at home. This is especially true in areas that don't have many reported cases. There are certainly thousands of carriers in those areas, but very few with symptoms, so people have a false sense of confidence. We're our own worst enemies.

Did you hear about the Coronavirus Party that a group of young people held in Kentucky? The only thing we have to fear is stupidity.

There is nothing so frightening as stupidity in action.

It's times like these that bring out the best - and worst in people.

I can see it now. I'm rejected for a ventilator due to my age because there was a young college kid who needed it. He got the virus while celebrating in Florida for Spring Break! Is that what you call sacrificing your life for the economy? maybe next year I'll get the Medal of Freedom Award from Trump. That's more than Rush Limboob did. LOL

Fresh vegetables have a limited shelf life. If salads are part of your diet, you will be forced to expose yourself to the virus by going shopping fairly often. I grow my own vegetables in season and I think that nurseries selling vegetable plants *are* essential. (I don't have the capability of starting lots of seeds indoors.)

I'm glad that liquor store are considered essential. I am about out and need to make a run.

The deer did not destroy your son's car. His car hit a deer because your son is too stupid to keep an eye on the sides of the road when driving at dusk. If one deer gallops across the road, there is likely another just behind it. Slow down at dusk and at night and be aware of wildlife crossing the road.

That's just about what a governor has been saying. Get the economy rolling again. We old folks can sacrifice ourselves to make life better for the younger generation. I don't recall which state is lucky enough to have him in office. I'll look.

EDIT: Here it is. Lieutenant governor of Texas.

You have no idea about the circumstances under which the collision with the deer took place.

You must not drive much, esp. at night (for a statement like that I'd say you don't drive much, or at all)......... and you are an ASS for insulting the man's son - GROW UP. I love wildlife and am a very careful driver, but...... Deer and hogs run right through, they do not stop, look both ways, you often don't even see them coming as they dart out of the brush that often comes right to the edge of the road, and they can and will run into the side of your vehicle too (I've seen that happen to the car in front of me).

Deer and hogs at night - totally unpredictable. I stopped riding my MC to work because of this issue. Perhaps the newer cars with collision avoidance might help, but it happens so fast. If you are on a two lane with scrub and trees on the immediate sides, it's gonna happen. IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU SOMEDAY.

I hit a hog (driving my Jeep to work 4:00AM) doing 50 (60 MPH posted speed limit) on a 4 lane road with mowed grass, and light fog. I saw him (big boar, long as my Jeep was wide) on a full run crossing the oncoming lanes, I nearly pushed the brake through the floor, swerved, on the horn and had it down to possibly less than 10 MPH by the impact, I was lucky, I only had a bent bumper, the hog never looked, flinched or stopped. Some of my coworkers had front ends destroyed by hogs, deer and cows, one nearly died with a bull laying in the car on him, months to recover. Some saw the critter, some never saw it, none could stop in time. I hope you never have this unfortunate type accident.

I agree. I have never hit a deer...YET. I've come close. But there are times when they run right out in front of you....amost like they are committing suicide. It would help if you had a car that wasn't made with paper products though. LOL
