As a side note - the mercy will be taking on non Covid patients to free up hospital beds for those who have it. At least that is how I understand it from other medical professionals, my wife being one of those.

I would like also to remind everyone that this virus is NOT a death sentence - for most it is simply an inconvenience. I'm not downplaying this though because the right virus escaped China but if the wrong one did we would be in so much deeper.
Everyone needs to chill a little - this will pass.

The article I read emphasized that Mercy and Comfort are set up to handle battle casualties = they make one heck of a Trauma Center to take the injuries frp, car crashes, fires, industrial accidents, shooting victims etc that eat up resources so the regular hospitals can concentrate on Covid. And with their helicopter pads they can gather them in from a large area.

If I end up cancelling my trip to Spain in June for my birthday I was thinking of flying to San Diego to see my 95ish-year-old aunt...haven't been to CA in decades. It's eerie all these big cities around the world being virtual ghost towns.

N.T.C. is still there. Coronado is really a peaceful place right now with the lack of crowds but it's just as beautiful as ever. I was out there last weekend and was shooting the city from Bay Side Park (Maybe I'll post some of those photo's also) and a couple, their children and some friends walked into the park to renew their wedding vows after 20 years. I turned my camera on them and took some photo's for them. I created a gallery for them as a gift on my website. I did it because I could and it felt good to give what they didn't or couldn't have.
I wish everyone would just chill and take a little time to strike up a civil and cordial conversation with a stranger. I personally find it quit rewarding.

Anyway Dawg - maybe your not quite as rude as your title suggests

Yep, what's in a name. I sure did enjoy it when I was there. Is " That Place " across from the Sports Arena still there? It was a popular bar back then.

If I think what you're referring to is correct - there are still some around but not my thing really.

Sorry but in the US right now the facts say you are wrong!

as of 7:35pm, Mar 25, 2020

Total Deaths 1,031 Total Recovered 593

Looks to me that is almost 2 deaths to every one recovered.

You need to get your fuzzy math straight. You have to take in the total number of active cases.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Coronavirus
Cases:
80,857
Deaths:
1,163
Recovered:
1,864

What the hell are you talking about, there has been media coverage of one ship going to the east coast and the other going to the west coast. The only thing "fake" is people like you yelling and screaming that everything is "fake", and that moron in the White House that claimed it was all a hoax. Go tell those newly confirmed with covid-19. In the last 12 hours there were over 5,936 new confirmed cases.

That's not "fake" it is reality!!!

Okay Chicken Little calm down with your conspiracy theories. The only one yelling and screaming here is you.

I'm not sure I would trust something that includes "O-Meter" as part of it's name. I trust (https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6)

For whatever reason, the US figures are broken down into county, rather than the entire country/island/continent as everywhere else in the world. Makes America look like it has the chicken pox. Over 520k people so far affected worldwide - hard to fathom. There are currently 7 cases in the county I live in in IL.

Thanks for the pictures. (Mission Beach 1956 to 1979) Lots of changes. spent many years on a Destroyer moored to a bouy between Broadway pier & North island. NO Freeways. Lindburgh field terminal was 100 yds from Pacific ave & walking distance to downtown or the train depot. As a conservative , got out before Calif. fell over the cliff.

Monday I decided to get out of the house for a bit and take a walk...with my gear in tow of course. I had a feeling that this would give me some unique perspectives on the affect that Covid-19 was placing on the community and I wasn't wrong.
I decided that a trip to downtown San Diego was the best place to go to get a true perspective on things so I drove downtown with ease - no traffic at all. As I pulled into the city and cut over to Broadway I was amazed that there were very few pedestrians out and only a few cars here and there. Usually this would be bumper to bumper with thousands of people everywhere at this time of day.
You see pictures of Broadway as I drove down towards the warf - empty. Then photo's of Sea Port Village and the boardwalk - empty. Restaurants that would normally be full with patrons - empty. I will never see this city like this again in my lifetime...at least I hope not. I find that strange to say because at the same time I find it incredibly peaceful with none of the claustrophobic trappings I normally feel in the city.
The sky is clear of the normal pollution that is seen on any given day normally. Even the Seals seemed to be enjoying themselves more.

I happened to park right across from a guy that I struck up a conversation with and he said he was going out to one of the piers to see off the US Hospital ship Mercy which his wife was serving on as a nurse. I immediately thought what an opportunity this would be for me to shoot this ship as it sailed out of the bay to support efforts against the Covid virus.
I was stunned as the ship whet by blowing it's horn with almost no fanfare. Only the 15 or so family members holding up flags and signs as there loved ones sailed by. I don't think that any news agencies covered it that evening either. I find this a sad statement and a total lack of respect from news agencies towards our military hero's.
I decided to setup a gallery for these families so they would have some photos of the event - that was the least I could do as I know what they go through. My son is in the coast guard and he is a patriot through and through and I miss him every day.

During a pandemic, the best place to be is away from everyone else. Or put another way, the smart people stay home . . .
