Your photos tell quite a story of a city in nearly total shutdown. Sad the lack of news coverage on sailing of the Mercy. The fake media should have been all over the sailing of a 1000 bed hospital ship going to help with the corona virus.

What the hell are you talking about, there has been media coverage of one ship going to the east coast and the other going to the west coast. The only thing "fake" is people like you yelling and screaming that everything is "fake", and that moron in the White House that claimed it was all a hoax. Go tell those newly confirmed with covid-19. In the last 12 hours there were over 5,936 new confirmed cases.

That's not "fake" it is reality!!!

Sounds more like the voice of a flaming realist! Instead of liberal or conservative, why don't we look at reality vs. political propaganda. People are dying. Stock market is in the crapper. Scientists are telling us one thing, politicians are telling us another. Who's been right so far?

Monday I decided to get out of the house for a bit and take a walk...with my gear in tow of course. I had a feeling that this would give me some unique perspectives on the affect that Covid-19 was placing on the community and I wasn't wrong.
I decided that a trip to downtown San Diego was the best place to go to get a true perspective on things so I drove downtown with ease - no traffic at all. As I pulled into the city and cut over to Broadway I was amazed that there were very few pedestrians out and only a few cars here and there. Usually this would be bumper to bumper with thousands of people everywhere at this time of day.
You see pictures of Broadway as I drove down towards the warf - empty. Then photo's of Sea Port Village and the boardwalk - empty. Restaurants that would normally be full with patrons - empty. I will never see this city like this again in my lifetime...at least I hope not. I find that strange to say because at the same time I find it incredibly peaceful with none of the claustrophobic trappings I normally feel in the city.
The sky is clear of the normal pollution that is seen on any given day normally. Even the Seals seemed to be enjoying themselves more.

I happened to park right across from a guy that I struck up a conversation with and he said he was going out to one of the piers to see off the US Hospital ship Mercy which his wife was serving on as a nurse. I immediately thought what an opportunity this would be for me to shoot this ship as it sailed out of the bay to support efforts against the Covid virus.
I was stunned as the ship whet by blowing it's horn with almost no fanfare. Only the 15 or so family members holding up flags and signs as there loved ones sailed by. I don't think that any news agencies covered it that evening either. I find this a sad statement and a total lack of respect from news agencies towards our military hero's.
I decided to setup a gallery for these families so they would have some photos of the event - that was the least I could do as I know what they go through. My son is in the coast guard and he is a patriot through and through and I miss him every day.

Beautiful but sad series. As a nurse, I feel sad for the man sending is wife off to a dangerous assignment. But I am very proud of her and pray for her and coworkers good health.

Nice photo journal of our times! Same here, but we do meet more neighbors on our walks around the hood.

As a side note - the mercy will be taking on non Covid patients to free up hospital beds for those who have it. At least that is how I understand it from other medical professionals, my wife being one of those.

I would like also to remind everyone that this virus is NOT a death sentence - for most it is simply an inconvenience. I'm not downplaying this though because the right virus escaped China but if the wrong one did we would be in so much deeper.
Everyone needs to chill a little - this will pass.

I'm not sure where your coming from with this comment. People are dying but more people are recovering. The first responsibly of any government is to try and keep people like you calm instead of creating panic which I think the media has done a bang up job of. You want to place blame write a letter to China - this is the 3rd virus they have unleashed on the world.

First - Trump never said this was a hoax - ever. As far as the hospital ships go, there are 2. One is permanently stationed on the east coast and the other on the west and they are rarely ever deployed except for natural disasters and such.
Second - keep your numbers in perspective. This is an airborne virus like the flu and people will be exposed no matter what but out of a country with 329.45 million people those numbers are not that great and the majority of those will recover. Also as we folks do what we need to do to limit exposure these numbers will drop just like they did in China.
Last - you want to direct your anger at someone you should look to China who have done this 3 times now.

My post was NOT a political statement but simply a photo journalistic look at the affects something like this has done to every day life.
This will pass sooner than you think. Stay calm and stop the blame except to those who's fault it is - China.

The media people you mention see only themselves as heroes. Those heroes find no public affection when they show a boat churning through the water. If they cannot shove a microphone in front of it they have no interest. Aren't they pretty, though?

Do they ever know public affection? They are all cannibals aren't they?

With the exception of just a few bad apples, everyone is keeping a pretty level head about everything.

I remember S.D. back in '67, it was a really neat place, a lot smaller then than now I would guess. That was when you had to take the ferry over to Coronado, they didn't have the bridge. N.T.C. was huge, I guess that is all gone now. I spent a month in a barracks right at the end of the runway, there was a huge rack of airport landing lights in the yard right next to us. Took awhile to get used to the noise. I came back in '69, left in '71. Have not been back. S.D. was one of my all time favorite places I have ever been. Nice historical photos.

Yes indeed and quoting Steven King in one of his books "The world has moved on".
N.T.C. is still there. Coronado is really a peaceful place right now with the lack of crowds but it's just as beautiful as ever. I was out there last weekend and was shooting the city from Bay Side Park (Maybe I'll post some of those photo's also) and a couple, their children and some friends walked into the park to renew their wedding vows after 20 years. I turned my camera on them and took some photo's for them. I created a gallery for them as a gift on my website. I did it because I could and it felt good to give what they didn't or couldn't have.
I wish everyone would just chill and take a little time to strike up a civil and cordial conversation with a stranger. I personally find it quit rewarding.

Anyway Dawg - maybe your not quite as rude as your title suggests

Sorry but in the US right now the facts say you are wrong!

as of 7:35pm, Mar 25, 2020

Total Deaths 1,031 Total Recovered 593

Looks to me that is almost 2 deaths to every one recovered.
