A video for a Beginner to consider, a used Nikon D3300, easy to learn, easy to operate.

In my opinion the D3300 is a great and much underappreciated camera and if used within it's limitations it can give you excellent results. It's what I take when I am out and about. I usually stick either a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 or the Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 on it which are sharp, lightweight and make the combo easy to carry. I know, the camera snobs complain that there are just not enough buttons but when I'm out and about I shoot mostly in aperture priority with Auto ISO 100-1600 and a minimum 1/125 shutter speed. There! Single dial and needless button pushing problem solved! I have back button focus enabled with single point autofocus and I exclusively shoot RAW. With a decent lens the picture quality is excellent and pretty much indistinguishable from much more expensive cameras as long as the lighting conditions are halfway decent. You can pick these up used or refurbished with a kit lens for under 300 bucks which is an absolute bargain considering the picture quality you get. Spend another 100 bucks on a used 35mm DX prime and you got a killer walk around and street photography combo. And when it croaks (which mine hasn't done yet) you just toss it in the trash.

How can you recommend a camera that only has ONE card slot??? That's like going out with just ONE pair of eyes. Totally ridiculous!!!

Wow!!! Take a chill pill dude! If you would have looked at my profile you would have seen that I also have a D7200 which has the politically correct two card slots. Would I take a D3300 to a paying job? Probably not!
To a nice afternoon stroll? You bet your a$$!

A bit of sarcasm dude. But a chill pill sounds pretty good about now. I have a D610, a D850 and a D500. They all have two card slots and I've never used the second slot in any of them. The D3300 is a nice camera.

I have several cameras with only one card slot and have never had a problem. In fact, in my twenty years of digital photography, I've never had a CF card fail and have had only one cheap SD card fail. Don't buy cheap SD cards.

For casual trips, I do the same thing with a D3400 for the same reasons: lightweight and not intrusive, with 24MP. Although to cover all opportunities i will use the DX 18-300, which adds a little bulk. For β€œserious” tasks, I use my D500 and/or D810.

Regarding card slots, I recall that Steve Perry in his review of the D7500 said that the single slot was not a big deal, specifically when shooting wildlife. He said something to the effect, β€œI’ve never had an animal sue me for missing a shot because I only used one card.” But personally, i am also in the club of never having a (SanDisk) card fail.

Excuse me, but are you telling us here at UHH that a miracle occurred when you were born, having "2" Sets of Eyes, πŸ‘€πŸ‘€, so you require "2" Card slots on your Camera??
I personally have only "1" set of Eyes πŸ‘€, and Only "1" card slot in my Nikon D3300, I have enjoyed creating some very nice images.

You could have put a question mark after the word "born" and then I and the rest of the UHH world would have said "YES" and we would have been finished with this whole discussion.
Not only do I NOT need two card slots but I don't use the second slot on my cameras that have them.

Having a camera that has 2 card slots is highly over rated.

I made a living as a professional photog for years with only one roll of film at a time in my cameras. Now quite content with Canon digitals with only one card slot.

I had a CF card fail completely, and lost a whole shoot. And it was a top name brand, not a cheapo.

For the most part I agree with Klaus and others who like the D3300. I would call it "very capable" rather than "great", but it's mostly appropriate for beginners and non-professionals, which is the reason I bought one. The single card slot doesn't hold me back. I would love to play with true bracketing, which I don't believe the D3300 will do. There may be a way to accomplish it anyway and I'm still trying to figure that out. An articulating screen would be really helpful. Add a remote shutter release, tripod, lens reverse ring and focusing rail and the D3300 will even do a respectable job shooting macro. For detailed landscape shots it's not so good, but nearly every camera has it's shortcomings especially in the crop-sensor category and the D3300's price range. Even though I hope to justify a full frame camera in the future, I am enjoying learning to shoot with the D3300.
