Total newbie to this forum and the hobby (my camera gets delivered tomorrow). What shutter speed did it take to capture that bird so sharply? The gull seems so very high up since there is nothing but clouds around it. However, I suspect that was not really the case.

thanks, i am curious about the light settings, why not go with a smaller aperature vice the negative value for exposure control?
