Basically those are the shooting modes to learn while learning how to operate the camera. Program, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority are AUTO modes. In Manual we control aperture and shutter speed. Have you heard "I thought I was a photographer till I got to the M mode?"
Do not misunderstand me, nothing wrong using any of those modes but in Manual we are in full control and if something went wrong it was our fault, not the camera.
My Argus C3 was FULLY manual; my Kodak Pony 135 was FULLY manual. Lots of mistakes made. Automatic exposure was a godsend.

I really think that a dumb digital camera would be a nice offering, if the camera had none of the expensive metering and focusing equipment and just produced a .JPG based on the shooters settings the price would be greatly reduced. I never could understand the reasoning behind buying the most advanced camera on the market and not using it's leading edge technology, sort of like buying a formula one race car for your daily commute.
