Young Girl - Candid Natural Light
I don't understand what you are trying to photograph, I am not artistic but would prefer to see the girls face without the hand. I know we all see things differently, but I am artisticly challenged.

I noticed that she seemed to be in such deep thought even though there was a lot of activity surrounding her and the nature light seemed to be nice across her face.
The eyes are the subject of this photo. She is a million miles away. Also a very prominent widows peak. Nice capture

That is what I noticed also. Thank You
I have seen a couple young ladies with a similar look. Very pensive.

You are very observant. You have taught me to be more observant.
Thank you, glad that it may help you.
Please critique. Thank you.

Looking more critically at your photo, I see her arm as a leading line to her eyes. Also the prominent widows peak points toward the eyes. The young ladies hair frames her face and eyes which are placed at the line dividing the photo into an upper one third and lower two thirds. Lastly her beautiful eyes, main object of the photo, are looking off frame making one wonder about what is holding her concentrated and thoughtful gaze. And finally, the natural lighting and color balance are exceptional.
My opinion, and certainly not professional by any means, is this is an excellent photograph of a very attractive and pensive young lady.
Again, thank you so much for your time and opinion.

The hand is way too distracting for me. The lighting is nice and natural but the hand/wrist dominates, especially as it is in the foreground. Hands are notorious things to get right in portraiture and best used if they contribute in some way to the overall story of the image without becoming too overpowering.

I agree the hand and forearm are quite dominating here, but they seem to also support the far off thought appearance ("The Thinker"). Maybe if the hand was under her chin, but this was a candid shot and if I asked her to pose she would not have that far off thought look that I like about the photo. Thank you for your critique.

Again, No technical data, so it is difficult to offer a comprehensive critique with suggestions for improvements.
Candid portraits are acceptable in this section- not every portrait image needs to be formal or studio-like. Certain principles of aesthetics, however, can still apply. If the motif of the image is the expression in the eyes, the hand and wrist coming from the bottom of the frame and the distortion is distracting. Post the data and I will offer some suggestions.
Lighting: is natural sunlight
Settings: f 4.5, 1/200 sec., ISO 200, 80mm
Thanks, Walter
