The author reads all the specs like he speaks English and then says he doesn't believe any of it. Jared says it changes everything. Even TN is buying Canon stock.

IBIS, >40 MP, better battery, dual card slots

Hype aside, if it is affordable it will be hard to resist when it's time to buy a body for those who have an investment in Canon lenses.

He mentioned that it’s capable of up to 20 fps with the mirror up. Did he forget that it’s a mirrorless camera? Personally, I think all “reviews” are out to lunch until the camera is on the market and it’s actually been tested. Then read what Imaging resources, DPReview and Cameralabs have to say about it. Right now it’s all speculation.

Exactly. Until such a camera is actually available NONE of these"reviews" mean squat!!!
If you believed all of Canons "pre-release" reviews of the first R model you were expecting a total game changer! And yet look at the ridiculously non-competitive product that was actually released. Rumors and "hype" are just that. Uneducated speculation at best.

My humble experience with all these Internet reviews is that the person in need of such camera should try it first and see if it is exactly what he needs. I have seen many reviews on different cameras and lenses and the majority of them reflected the opinion of the reviewer.
To talk about a camera without a good review to me is pure speculation.

How is the EOS R a ridiculously non-competitive product? It has dust protection, great backward compatibility for existing lenses and already great selection of new lenses.

Here is an objective comparison: https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/comparisons/nikon-vs-canon-vs-sony-full-frame.htm

I don't own one, but it seems solid for Canon's first EVF mirrorless camera released in 2018. I'd be curious to hear from anybody who wished they had not bought one.

I think he meant that other than being mirrorless, there was nothing particularly ground breaking about the EOS R.

As for reviews, I read all the pro reviews and weigh what each has to say, beyond merely repeating the manufacturer’s specs and features. I’m more interested in what something actually does and how (well) it does it, as opposed to what the manufacturer claims. But more than that, I rely on actual owner/user reviews, people who have one and use it day to day. Those are the people who will tell you the “real deal,” how the average user fares with something. Those are at least honest reports. That’s why folks here on UHH solicit the opinions of others when they are considering something. Hoggers will let you know exactly what they think beyond, “Oh yeah, nice camera, I like it.”

For me the real Game Changer was moving from the Canon EOS3 to the 5D2 -- A nice step forward was moving on to the 5Ds (I really wish I had gotten the 5Dsr) --
Since then everything else has been pure HYPE

A moment before that he said it correctly, that it was comparing mehanical to electronic shutter, so it was clearly a slip of the tongue.

I too purchased the 5Ds and while I'm extremely happy with it I also wish I would have purchased the 5Dsr. I'm not sure if it would be significantly sharper or if I would have moire issue, but I always have this nagging feeling I gave something up.

After becoming frustrated with efforts to shoot a bit of video with my 70D and 5Ds, I sold the 70D & 18-135 kit lens and replaced it with an Rp and 24-240 kit lens. I've read about the criticisms and hype of the Rp and Canon mirrorless in general and frankly its nonsense. The Rp is more than I hoped for and am very happy with it after several thousand shots and hours of video taken since early November last year.

I figured that, but ya know, gotta poke some fun. Just call it an “Oops!”

I agree. I recenty bought the 5D4 but if this thing lives up to even 80% of the Hype, it would be very tempting.
