The owl was sitting approx 30 feet up on the tree branch. I shot it with D200, 300mm, f/5.6. I decided it needed fill-in flash, which at that distance required to fire the SB-800 at full power, obviously without red-eye reduction. The result: a very sinister picture.
And Mr Owl is apparently keeping a close eye on you too! Nice shot.
If you're not in love with the red eye many software programs will take it out for you. I am a new photographer and am still learning. I use GIMP because I cannot afford Photoshop and GIMP is free. It is really fairly simple to fix red eye. Essentially zoom in a lot, select the eyes and adjust to take the red out.
Thanks for your note. I actually shot two pictures: one with and another without the fill-flash. I picked this one because of the sinister and unusual effect. Otherwise it would have been just another owl picture.
