This is one of my preserved Brown Recluse Spiders. I catch several of them in the warmer months. Although I photograph spiders whenever I find them, I do not collect spiders for preservation other than these nasty critters.

It's been a rainy day so what a better time than to play with camera gear and settings. My Woodlouse session turned out to be a dud so I brought this guy out to have another go at it. With a few tweaks of the camera settings I was able to get something post worthy.

Of course this is a focus stacked image which consists of a stack of 218 images set at 10-micron step distances between shots. The stack of images were processed in Zerene Stacker PMax method.

The setup for the session was the reverse mounted 28mm lens mounted onto a reverse mounted magnifying lens attached to a fully extended bellows. The camera used is a Fujifilm X-T20 with an APS-C size sensor. Illumination was two LED lamps and two fiber optic light heads all diffused with translucent drink cups and white paper towel.

As always, thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Please, I am just recovering... I made the mistake of clicking "Download." My suggestion is do not click on download... you will not sleep well tonight.

Do not put this thru Googles "Deep Dreams" or you will end up insane.

sippyjug104, your photo is an example showing us clearly when is good photography too good and should be hidden from the masses!! Dr. Frankenstein must be in your linage.

Oh I am so glad spiders don't have wings. I would have to live underwater.

Thanks for viewing and I agree that some insects and spiders look quite menacing when viewed under magnification.

Great shot, especially in DL. No nightmares for me, just continued amazement at the variety and, yes, beauty of these little animals.

Thanks Mark, it is preserved in alcohol so the eyes have a bit of a clear glaze to them rather than the rich black that they are when alive or freshly demised however I'd rather not stick a mounting pin in a live one let alone hope that it would stay in front of the camera.

My better half shows them no mercy so it would be quite difficult for me to stage a session of one that is no longer anything but a grease spot when she finds it!
