I did this shot 3 times over the last 3 evenings. This one is my favorite so far.
Set up
I liked a background I had but didn't want to mask it in. I made the background to fit 20 x 30 and went up to Walmart and got a print.
Set the print in the background.
Set my objects on a wooden table I purchased at a second had store.
Objects I found at a second hand store too.
Shot in darkened room.
Lit the objects and background up with a continuous 2 x 3 led light, hand held over and front of objects.
For highlights I shot in the dark. Lit the intended highlight with a small flash light brushing over the areas as the camera was set to a 10 second exposure.
Blended in highlight photos using layers and masks using Photoshop.

Very striking, Jim. Making a poster-sized print of your favorite background is a terrific idea. I hope you have plans to use it again

Great shot, the kind of stuff I think about and plan but never seem to get around to.

Thank you Carol, the picture was a good find I'll use it in other shots with the right accessories.

Thank you Linda. My only problem with the printed background is its on gloss paper. A friend told me there is a matte spray I can get a Michaels, hope it works without ruining the print. Matte should reduce the reflections while using a flash.

Well done. Photo has a real antique feel to it. Really like your explanation of your setup as well.

Beautifully done! Why photographers (should) never get cabin fever.
