Great job! #4 may not have been "too bright" but, to me, is the best of the bunch...striking colors!!

Tip on lightning shots, keep your shutter speed at a decent hand held or tripod capability and your f/stop between 8-11. Your exposure will be dark but when you post process, the out come is great... Note: depends on the brightness of lightning for correct setting, be sure to view each photograph for correct settings, you'll know when lightening is about to strike if you count between strikes. By doing this at least three times before your first shot you will know whether to shoot after your last number or before your last number... Great shots all together. I like them all, simply because lightning is a challenging capture...

Wow! Well, guess I'm headed to the beach tomorrow night to shoot that incoming storm... lol.

Obviously, very inspirational!

 Be sure and post some of the out come for us, thanks! Good luck and remember "don't stand IN the water while shooting lightning, because then the lightning will be shooting you" :-)

I caught these earlier this year with a point and shoot (and a lot of patience). I still want to photograph lightning over the beach with my Canon T2i. What is a good shutter speed for tripod?

This was taken with a Canon G10. (I think) I had it on sport mode (for a fast shutter), the chain lightning "hung" in the air a very long time allowing me to be able to capture it. There was enough natural light so my fill flash wouldn't pop up either, I was flipping through all the modes to get the best results. I was sitting out in my wooden rocking chair in my front yard shooting these, and I think my neighbors were laughing at me!!
