As some of you know, I purchased a 1DXii from a UHH member. So I've finally tested it out. Since I love cactus, I decided my first shots should be at one of my favorite places (Boyce Thompson Arboretum) and mostly of cactus. So here are my first shots.
The camera was set on BBF which I've never used. I found I loved it in vertical format, and it's iffy in horizontal. But I'll continue to use it for awhile. I have a lot to learn and need to read the manual a few times.
THANKS, DIANE!
As always, comments are welcome. All are hand-held, AV priority.
It looks like you and that camera are going to be good friends. I think you will like BBF once you get used to it.
Great camera photographing my love, CACTUS.
Wow !! Beautiful Series thanks for sharing..

It's going to take a lot of getting used to. I always thought I'd be sticking my thumb in my eye, but that wasn't the case. So I'm going to keep working on it.
I don't know a thing about Cannon cameras. I can't even spell it correctly.
But this particular Canon is sure working for you. The Cacti all look great!

Congratulations on your new purchase. 👏
I had to look up the camera to see what it was. Looks big, how does it fit in your hands?
I don't have the same camera but do use the back button focus all the time, love it landscape or portrait.
Your pictures are quite good especially since its your first set. My only suggestion would be to open up your shadows some. On my computer they are very dark.

Thanks, Bill de. I've wanted this camera for a long time but had decided I didn't need it. Next is to try it on moving targets!

Thanks, Jim. I was sort of struggling with exposure yesterday. Most came out way too light and I had to darken in post. And I tend to get my pictures sort of on the dense side.
The camera is heavy, but it's very well balanced, particularly with my 28-135 lens. It fits nicely. I've used the 1D Mk IV for years, and it's quite similar - maybe a few ounces heavier.
On the BBF issue - I'm left-eyed. I always thought I'd be poking my right eye, but on this camera that doesn't seem to be an issue. Now I need to learn how to do the functions I normally used that button for!!!
Nice photos! I am so happy that you are enjoying the camera! You will LOVE LOVE LOVE it for moving targets!

Thanks! I'll have to find some. I will look for some local ropings, probably. They're fun to shoot.
