I recently purchased Canon large format printer and now looking for printing software. I do not need software for file management or photo editing just software for printing. I am currently using Luminar for editing and then exporting to Lightroom for printing but looking for something with greater flexibility. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Check the Canon website and enter your printer model to get the latest of everything. There may be information @ this in the box.

Many here at UHH recommend Qimage Ultimate 2020 from ddisoftware, Inc.
I will be watching this thread to see if anyone comes up with any reasons that I might think are important. It has some features that are "nice" but seems to be for those who print "a lot". I currently use Lightroom for my printing. I read the Qimage manual and did not find any features that were important to my limited printing needs.

It depends on which printer you’re using, which operating system and how large a print you wish to make. Check the canon website under support for your printer and be sure to use the most current version. If you’re trying to print images larger than 17” on the short side you may need to investigate (and unfortunately buy) a RIP - raster image processor - for quality results.

Qimage is what you want. I've been using it forever, and short of a full fledged RIP it's the best there is. Check out their website for more details:

I am curious what you believe it offers above and beyond what Lightroom offers? Does it somehow make better prints or is it just the paper saving (automatic placement) feature and ability to remember your printer settings for different papers/printers?

The price is reasonable if it does make better prints.

What is lacking in the software that Canon gave you with the printer?

It handles the interpolation of image file automatically. Is adjustable.
If printing different size prints handles the different sharpness that should be applied or not. Also adjustable.
A big one for me is it will print, just below the image, information of that image. You can customize the info.
Can save any printing done as a 'job' in a folder.

I have an Epson 7900 and I just use Photoshop Elements 9 to print from.

You can get RIP software but it's usually expensive.

Did you get Canon's plug in printing software. I used it for awhile and it did a good job. Maybe your printer is different from inkjets?

Qimage provides RIP-like results without the cost of a RIP, which run into thousands of dollars and are intended for production printing. Qimage is only $70. It's not as fast as a RIP, but results are better than anything you can do with photo editing software print modules.

Hi Michael - did you go to their website with the link I provided? That should answer your questions in far greater detail than a few sentences here on UHH.

I don't print these days but when I did, I used Hamrick's software. It was quite good but dunno if it's still available. Anyone?
