This China company advertised a Peak Design tripod for $39.99. What was received was a cheap aluminum tripod worth about ?10.00. The companies response is to offer an $8 credit and for you to keep the junky tripod. When I stated I was filling a dispute they are now begging me to not file a dispute. Be aware, or, Beware.
I get all my camera-related equipment from B&H or my local camera store. Your story illustrates why I do this.
Chinese rubbish. File a complaint. Adorama or B&H. Adorama has an in house brand called 3pod. I recently bought a carbon fiber with a tilting center column. Excellent build quality. And a very good price.

Peak Design tripods have yet to be released and are going to run more like $400.

I ordered 3 of them and disputing all 3 charges. Paypal said they would give me a full credit if I shipped it back to them or or a $20 credit It would cost $53.00 to ship each one back and Paypal said they would reimburse me. I decided to go through my credit card companies and dispute it. I thought there might be a problem so I downloaded the add. Let me know if you need a copy of the ad.
I had a similar experience with a China business, I thought I was dealing with a San Francisco business. I had a similar exchange of emails like your’s. They were important because my credit card wanted them and they were the basis for my credit card company crediting the money back to my account.
Where tripods are concerned, $39 would indicate a basic table-top, used, or junk.
Sounds like the company is owned by the infamous Nigerian prince!
Always do due diligence especially when dealing with Chinese companies. Lesson learned.

I have had a similar thing happen twice. When I talked to the seller the same BS, need pictures, need this or that.
Told them, in capital letters (yelling), money back NOW or bad reviews, got money back like now, and both times they did not want the product returned.
Must be a dog eat dog market and expensive postage.

I bought oh so many items from China and my personal policy is to never pay more than I am willing to gamble for I know that it could go either way when I open the box. To me it's like putting a few dollars in a slot machine where I consider the money gone before I pull the lever and if I win, great...but I know when to stop too.
I do buy higher end products from China however I buy those directly from the manufacturer like Laowa, Benro, WeMacro, Lefoto, and Meike to name a few and I have never been disappointed. I also do as much research as I can on reviews and I also contact the manufacturer before the purchase for I like to feel that I am dealing with someone who is responsive to my questions before I buy.

PD tripods have and are being released. I got mine in Dec.. Love it and it is so easy to carry. Used it yesterday at Hendy Woods (see post) and even used it as a monopod.
There's an off chance Peak Design would be interested in that ad...
Knowing PD, a new carbon fiber tripod from PD for $39 doesn't really pass the giggle test, unless maybe if it was a 2yr old beat up floor model being sold off from an indie camera store...
