Hello all:

A much belated Happy New Year.

Any experience, good or bad, out there using the Z50and FTZ adapter with AFD Nikkor lenses? I'd like to hear from you.

Regards,
MarcoJ

Only autofocus with AF-S or the G series lenses. The AF motor must be in the lens. D lenses will be manual only.

Wrong. "D" has NOTHING to do with the AF system. Many D lenses are also AF-S and work great with the Z and FTZ combo. In fact, ALL AF-S lenses are also D lenses, it's just that Nikon dropped the D designation once all their lenses carried the D communication chip in them.
No "AF" lens is compatible with the FTZ adapter as all Nikon AF lenses are mechanical screw drive units with no in-lens focus motor, as required for the FTZ to function with them.

I don't understand this part. You certainly do not mean 'No "AF" lens is compatible with the FTZ adapter' ??

That's true. A lens labeled AF depends on a motor in the camera body to drive the auto focus. The "Z" bodies have no motor. AF-s, AF-p and Z lenses have their own internal motors.

Exactly. AF means no focus motor in the lens.
AF-S, AF-I, & AF-P all have in lens focusmotors and will work with the FTZ.
"D" has nothing at all to do with the focus system.

Oops. You are correct. I confused AF-D with type D. Sorry about the misinformation.

I don't like adapters. If I were to switch systems, I would sell what I have and buy new.

D lenses are manual focus only on any Z model.
