I've debated and debated and I finally decided to ask for your kind advice about how much I should crop this photo (or anything else you might suggest.)
I plan to enter it in a little photo contest. I've had it printed 4 times but keep refining.

I like the second one. It has to do with the rocks.

...door number two appeals to me. You got him/her nice and sharp!

I like the first one. It emphasizes the subject of the owl better. Really nice shot. For the rest of us that don't even have a shot similar to edit, you should be happy to have such a shot to mull over.

Id crop it on the bottom to eliminate the rocks and high shore completely. Leave some room for the bird to fly into on the left side cutting where the trees end.

Also I find the open background to the left in photo 2 distracting. I like the more consistent background of photo 1. I find my eye does less searching of the background with it looking consistent.

Out of the two , I enjoy viewing the second one more than the first one.

I prefer the second one because it show the bird in its surroundings without them taking anything away from the bird. I find the first image showing just a part of the rocks distracting.

Number two. It adds context for the bird.

If nothing else I don't feel like such a moron being unable to decide! I appreciate the feedback (all of which I agree with.)
