Hi all,
Popular Science has posted an article with some good suggestions and software recommendations, regarding how to recover deleted files from a SD Card.

https://www.popsci.com/story/diy/recover-deleted-files-sd-card/

And I would also like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow Hoggers, a very happy and healthy new year to you and yours.
And may all your images be golden.

After arriving in Florence after shooting in Venice for 5 days, I accidentally erased the 128GB SD card, misunderstanding the meaning of a camera menu item. I was aware that nothing had been actually deleted but recovery would have to wait until I was home. I bought an extra Lexar card as a camera shop in Florence -- exorbitantly priced, but what are you going to do? -- and it came with a download code for Lexar's Image Rescue 5. It recovered every one of my photos and I'd recommend it to anyone in such straits. The "About" screen in the software shows Lexar as the copyright holder. I don't know how someone would go about getting it, though, as B&H shows it as no longer available.

I read most of the article associated with the link you posted. The article is quite current. But, this topic has been mentioned before. Your posted link mentions Recuva. And SanDisk Memory cards have their recovery information listed on their packaging. I would say both methods have been used on this forum. I have never needed to retrieve photos from a failed, or corrupt SD card. I'm knocking on wood. This is a link, that many uhh members know about. Thanks though for posting this. Many, may not know this information. www.recuva.com.

I too, have never had a card failure, or accidentally erased an image or reformatted a card by mistake, Sd, Compactflash or XQD, and I am also knocking on wood!
I started shooting on cards with my first digital, the D100, when it first came out, so it’s been a very long amount of time to be error/mistake free.
admittedly, I do only buy high end cards, and only from a reputable source, since there are many “forged/copycat“ cards available.
And for the record: I never opened a camera back with a roll of film in it, either!!!
I started shooting film way back in 1972!
I truly wish others my good luck!!

Since you were able to recover the files I would think the misunderstood menu item wasn't "Format".

No, my job title includes "CTO" so I have an inkling about format. As I recall, I thought I was about to delete a single file. Didn't turn out that way.
