This an old Liquidometer type 201, a thermometer made for refrigerated rail cars, made by the Liquidometer Corp, Long Island City, NY. The second image is of the lock on this rail car. The car was found in a rail museum in Sioux City, Iowa. I actually had to tone down (desaturate) the color a little.
And, no, I have no idea what other liquidometer types may look like.

Thanks Pat. I've looked and looked on Google and the internet and can find all sorts of info about Liquidometer Corp but nothing about any thermometer that looks remotely like this one. It appears that it measured both the bottom and top of the load. You can see some of the details if you double click if you haven't already.
