Holster Case for Attached 100-400 Lens

Howdy, Hogs. Now that I’m enjoying my “new” used Canon 100-400 lens, I need a new holster case that can accommodate my camera with that lens attached. I need 10.5 inches. Seems like this Lowepro model would do the trick. I prefer not to spend more than around 40 bucks or so. I don’t use a case on its own or in the field. I just use it to protect the camera inside my daypack when I travel. Any other models that I should consider that will fit my camera and lens and not break the bank? Thanks for any thoughts.

Is your 100 - 400 the size of a 70 - 200?

Don't know. But the internal length of the one I linked to is 11.8" (See specs), so my gear would fit.

The 100-400 is almost the same length as the 70-200. I have both and carry either in a Lowepro case that is very similar to or the same as the one you show. Btw, if you call Lowepro customer service, they will tell you if it will fit.
I like this case a lot. It will hold any camera and any lens I own, and with a shorter lens, there’s room on top for a flash in its case - probably my most used case (and I, like lots of members, have accumulated quite a few).

You might look this one up on BH Photo- 26.95 and is offered as an option to go with the Canon 100-400 mm lens: Ruggard Lens Case 10.5 x 4.5 - looks less bulky than the Lowepro one

Thanks for thought. That is a lens case. I'm looking for a holster case to hold my camera AND the attached Canon 100-400.

I own the Top Loader 55 AW11. It should work well for protecting your camera/lens in your backpack. I'm measuring mine and it's 11.5" maybe 12" deep internally. I have several and use them all the time when I'm hiking and traveling. I don't use the Top Loader 55 though because there is no support for the camera body so it falls to the bottom and all the weight is supported by the end of the lens, and I'm not comfortable jostling it around for hours while hiking like that. But using it just for protection in your pack it should work great and it's a great value, it's really well made.

Thanks, DVZ. This model certainly looks good. Right now I'm not seeing any other good options.

Honestly, the only weight on the lens and camera mount is the weight of the body (2-3 lbs depending on whether you have a grip or not), and it is pushing straight down, so I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve been carrying 3 different Canon bodies that way for years with zero issues. I keep my full kit in my larger bags, and pick the body and lens (and possibly a flash or extender) that I plan for the upcoming shoot and just carry the holster. Unless it’s a very complex shoot which requires access to multiple lenses, that works for me 90% of the time.
