I had posted this question six years ago. I thought it would be fun to ask it again. I consider my photography as a journey. Why do you shoot and where do you want to go with it?
I take pictures to document my travels and preserve my family's memories from vacations, holidays, birthdays and any other events we might be involved in.
I have two goals while shooting the above. 1-facebook photos for my wife to post. 2- printing said photos to look at without turning on a computer.
I take images looking for that one in a thousand. Years ago I got that 1st one at Bushkill Falls that won me $500.00 prize from the Pocono Vacation Bureau. Since I have gotton a few more that are printed and hanging in my den and office.

Semper Fi...60--67
Hell, we could have been in country a couple of times in the past.
in my late teens I was "seeing" pictures at different times so in about 1965 I bought my first camera, several years later purchased a Minolta SRT 101 via my brother in the Army in Korea, so I could capture what I was seeing. I'm wondrously still in composition school and still at it at 79. Take pictures every day, often in my neighborhood. 100,000 Digital. Who will see them after I'm gone? Don't care, I do it for me.
Sound just like myself. With almost the same gear. My first, a Kowa 35mm setr2, a 50mm and a 135mm. Then I moved to Minolta.

What hooked me was a shot I took of an anhinga upside down feeding her fledgling in flight. There was so much commotion, I didn't see it, but the camera did. That was five years ago and many visits to beautiful natural areas gave me a new lease on life.
Thank you photography
Mine is an interaction with nature at a deep level. I shoot local wildlife everything from insects to eagles.
From time to time I also shoot natural formations and landscapes sky and water. When I walk through the woods or outdoors I take in a lot of what is around me because I am constantly scanning for opportunity vs a casual walk through where not much attention is paid to the surroundings.
I first took pictures to capture the memories of travel but then took pictures to preserve the beauty of the lands I traveled to.
As a Foreign Service Officer for over 35 years, between assignments and nearby travel, I journeyed to 109 countries. With the exception of three, i loved every country and my photos of them continue to bring me joy
