Would appreciate a rec for an all in one printer that also is great for pictures. Thanks.
Are you looking for one for occasional printing of photos and otherwise good for printing the usual documents, instruction manuals, etc.? Good photo printers use good ink, which is a tad expensive for just your average document printing. For general use, an HP or other brand deskjet office or home printer would be a better choice. Also, photo printers are slower, so for documents they're not great for general use.

There is no such animal that I know of. Cheap all-in-ones with 2-4 cartridges are fine for every day printing, but hardly photo quality. On the other hand, a good photo printer is expensive for general purpose and doesn’t include FAX/scanning. You really need separate printers.

Most all-in-ones will do fine printing on photo stock but, as far as I know, they all use dye based inks which will fade in time. It depends on what you want as far as permanence.

I have a canon mx922 (all in one) I use for everyday office work and occasional proofing. It is an ok but expensive photo printer but uses a lot of ink. At the price with rebates you can get a decent all-in-one and a canon pro-100 and do both jobs.
Canon pro 100 best printer for the money costs only around 90.00 to 110.00 to fill with ink and the ink lasts longer than any other printer I have owned
I have an Epson 440 and I don’t demand a lot out of my prints so it works well for me. If you demand high quality big prints, get a dedicated photo printer. I don’t think that any of them do scanning or copying but you can print photos and text.
I have a Canon Pixma TS9010. Besides printing it scans and copies. Inexpensive to buy but true Canon replacement inks cost almost as much as a new printer! I have used off brand inks successfully. It does a great job with images. I obviously don’t use it to print large wall hanging prints so I am not that concerned with print longevity.
HP 8720 series is quite affordable....I like it for everything I do.
Six color Epson all-in-one: Epson Expression Photo XP-8500
Six color Canon all-in-one: Canon Pixma TS8220
Six color Epson all-in-one with prints to 11x17: Epson Expression Photo XP-970
I recomend the Epson ECO Tank printers. They do a good job with photos. Not exibition quality but as we use to say "Drug store quality" on photos. I have had my Epson now for over 2 years and only had to buy refills on ink once. I have printed over 1000 5x7 color post cards along with 8x10s.

My Deskjet Pro 8600 does a great job on documents and photos. (also scanning, copying, and faxing.)
The Canon pro 100 is on sale at BH for 349.00, I dont think anything compares in that price range, 13x19, really professional prints, and mine hasnt clogged in 3 years, even after sitting idle for a couple of months.
