Repairing a Soo Line locomotive.

The rear motor housing got a little hot and now is binding up. I will try using a blow dryer followed by some freeze spray. If this does not work, I will have to pitch the rear truck and order another one.

It is not the motor. The plastic housing on the gear side is distorted upward. I need to heat it up and push it down and then rapidly cool it. It is not highest quality of products. Despite what it looks like inside, it is cheaply made. What bothers me is that this locomotive is part of the Soo Line Service Station Special that I bought new many years ago. What I found strange is that when I went to Lionel's website and entered the model #, the response was, "no items matching this description found". This sucks. I tried Googling it in other ways, but so far I have found nothing helpful. It is probably easier to see what is available on Ebay.

So they say.
As a last option, you could always create an engine repair facility on the layout.
Or a museum, that could cover a lot of things.

I am really just trying to see if I can restore such a cheap mechanism. I t upsets me that I have some very old Lionel engines that you just can't kill no matter how bad you mistreat them. This particular engine does not have very much run time at all.

Yeah, I do have enough Lionel to practically open up a museum. This locomotive is a GP 38-2. I do have a Soo switcher and they did produce a Soo SD 60. So, with that in mind, I might as well buck up and but both. They can be found fairly cheap. The sad thing is that I am allowed only to run the Lionel at Christmas time. The rest of the year they are stored.
