Takes a complex mind and a talented artist to do THAT stuff !!
How does one even conceive those images - let alone produce them?? :?:  :?:
look at the etchings of Escher and the paintings of Dali.

Has any one heard of his work.
I think he has a few issues to IRON out before he can call himself a photographer. Maybe he should join the PRESS!!

Harr de Harr Harr - - he ain't just no photographer - - he B an ar-tee-ist.
-
Look - - if you'd checked out his web site, you'd realize that this guy has something that the rest of us will never have. He is able to see something in his minds eye and transform that into an image that is provocative, evocative, and different than what 99.9% of us could produce.
-
So - - Blackie - - afore ye fire yer slings and arrows, understand what this fella is about.
If you can come anywhere CLOSE to THIS - then show me, and I'll shut up!!
http://erikjohanssonphoto.com/work/mind-your-step/He has a unique, rare talent, and has found his niche.
And thanks to Wisecrafter for letting us know.

Actually I have seen his work, and I do think he has the most amazing creative mind. Hey anybody that can post process photos like that has my admiration, I wouldn't know where to start!!! Just my attempt at humour.

Great link. Genius work, in my opinion.
What's wrong with creativity in Photoshop? I remember burning and dodging, as well as double exposures in the black and white days. The finished print was very different than the "reality" that was captured on the film.
Beauty is beauty.
got to agree. Beauty is where you find it and how you create it. I don't think God minds a little photoshopping now and then!
Indeed - creative genius. Interesting minute and half video on how he did one here:

Like you, I've admired Escher for years and have a few of his books in the den. Isn't it amazing what he was able to create with pencil, ink and his woodcuts! Erik is creative with his photoshop skills and flatters Escher by imitating several of his concepts. They are both extremely talented but I'd give Escher the edge any day. Thanks for reminding me about his work.

Strictly speaking, aside from the trick conjured in PS, this picture has little to recommend it.

Touche, maybe. I addressed the OP, who offered a trick picture without identifying the picture-taker. As well, I comment with a bias arising from my adherence to straight photography. Meanwhile, I keep an open mind. Others may follow the image-making technique that suits them.

View from Gooseneck Trail, Capitol Reef National Park
while this
http://erikjohanssonphoto.com/work/ikea/ wouldn't bee too hard for most of us with PP skills to do, the concept was absolutely hilarious. That appears to be one of his strong skills to come up with an original concept.

Maybe??? I don't think you have reread the OP yet. Wisecrafter posted the pic and merely asked if anyone had heard of his work. The picture-taker is clearly identified in the lower-left corner watermark.
At least you recognize your bias. Like you, I am into "eye candy" photography - trying to capture the beauty, harmony and tension of the world around us - clouds, mountains, vast vistas and the beauty of an individual rose petal.
Erik Johansson is into "mind candy" photography, using photography to give the viewer a little mental massage, a poke in the mind's eye so to speak, presenting images with photorealistic parts that are not possibly real in the whole.
In a certain sense comparing his work to ours is really apples and oranges. However, I think his work has a lot to be recommended - I would just be judicious about who I recommended it to.
That's the great thing about photography - we all start with pretty much the same tools and yet we can wind up in such different places.
