What camera? What lens? Only this lens or all lenses? New equipment? Did you call Canon? For anyone to help you, you have to help us with details, details, details.

As already noted, we need details. The 01 error code indicates a communications failure between the lens and camera. If you have carefully cleaned and inspected the contacts then you have done all you can. Next stop is a repair shop. First, make abolutely sure that the contacts are not damaged. Cleaning of the contacts should only be done with a soft, dry cloth. No pencil erasers. No solvents. No WD40.
If the lens is an EF 24-105 f/4 L then the cause could be an internal cable failure that is common to that lens, although, I don't know if it will bring up that particular code.

A product made specifically for this purpose is electrical contact clearer. It's not oily. It evaporates after its done its job. A long shot, but for a few bucks worth a try.

Does the 'clean your contacts' solution ever work? I have never heard of it working. Worn contacts won't be solved by this, i don't think.
Two considerations.
1. Is the '01' message from one or some of your lenses, or is it from all of your lenses? If its from all of them, then the problem is the Canon body.
2. Are the effected lenses Canon lenses or Canon <i>compatible</i> lenses? Non-Canon lenses eventually are no longer supported on newer Canon bodies.

I’ve experienced this same problem with 2 lenses- 1 an actual Canon L tele, the other a Tokina ATX zoom. The problem was with the aperture unit in both. Both refused (Error 01) operation when set at f/5.6 or greater. If set to f/5 or wider then the lens operated fine in all modes.
