We moved into our last house with a lake at the rear in Bradenton Florida this week, before heading back to the UK on Saturday. When I first saw this Spoonbill I thought it was standing awkward because of the sloping bank. Later I realised it had part of a leg and foot missing. The Tricoloured Heron seemed to keep he/she company.

Canon 650D, Tamron 18-400 lens.

Beautiful birds Sylvia. Too bad about the Spoonbill, but I guess nature can be cruel!

Thanks for sharing.

just wondering how the spoonbill eats when they normally wade in the water sweeping their spoon bill from side to side. Good set Sylvias!

Are there alligators in the area? Maybe he was injured by one he did not notice.

Sylvia, DDLs are a must to see the excellent details not only of the colors and sharpness of the feathers but also the missing part of the leg. The sponbill looks healthy which is fantastic.

Excellent photos Sylvia! As I said to you yesterday, could this be the same bird that I shot last January!
