Very nice shot I love it. I want to do some head shots someday. My favorite Head shot Photographer is Peter Hurley who is probably one of if not the best head shot photographer anywhere. I love his work. Please post more when you can. Thanks

Your posts are always so nice and enjoyable to view. You take the time to explain your settings and how you did it. Even if one does not have the same equipment as you, they can always apply some of your technique to the equipment they do have. I can attest to this. I always appreciate the help you give to me.

"...I want to do some head shots someday..." Tom your stellar efforts in sports genre will directly transfer over to portraiture i.e. head shots... In fact life is somewhat less chaotic in a studio than on football field or soccer pitch. And you may find monetizing same a tad easier. Thinking you probably got a grin out of seeing I'm using my soccer lens in the studio.. while I'm not a major fan of zoom optics for studio work that beast has amazing acuity and has paid for itself many times over in the decade I've owned it..

btw Peter Hurley the fabulous New York photographer started his career in front of one as a model and actor. Like so many other outstanding models he parlayed his epic skills gleaned in real-time into a huge success. a.k.a. it takes one to know one...

As always many thanks for your kind words... I'll likely be active in the sports section again this spring when the soccer league I work with takes to the pitch...

"... You take the time to explain your settings and how you did it..." Tom we all stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us... It's always been this way... And since UHH is a photography forum I feel incumbent to share the methodologies for my failures/success so others don't have to learn the hard way. This has been my path... studying the journey of my peers and colleagues... I've never been an avant garde guy... running just a tad behind the pack is safer... lol

While one's kit can help it is secondary to excellence which is entirely based on one's innovation to use the tools available... Nearly everything in my kit is used or refurbished equipment... all purchased at a fraction of original price...

Thanks again for your continued support and very kind words... they are certainly appreciated especially from a colleague who shares his methodologies so elegantly... love reviewing your stellar efforts...

very nice Thomas, I love how you line out what you used to get such a great shot , I always look forward to seeing your posts and learning from them, of course I will have to look up what a Paramount (butterfly) BD is! Thanks for posting

Thank you for your very kind words gekko11...
As to your query on "...I will have to look up what a Paramount (butterfly) BD is!"
No worries... a BD is short for Beauty Dish, typically a ~22" bowl shaped light modifier which concentrates illumination in a soft narrow beam... However a silver reflection umbrella at the same size can work equally well.

Paramount lighting gets it's name from the Paramount Studio in Hollywood which used it extensively to photograph it's screen stars... it is very faltering to ladies skin texture...

Here is a more in depth explanation...

Hope this helps or is at least food for thought...
all the best on your journey gekko11

Everything about this shot works. I especially like her
"red" expression which works so well. It would be an entirely mood in blue or green.....or black. Thanks for another great pic!

Thank you so much for your very kind words Roland... and I totally agree... Red works exceptionally well for this narrative albeit it is Cassis that took this visual statement entirely to the next level... She is more than amazing!
