Hi all,
I am trying to decide on a new camera purchase. Currently I have a Canon 60D which I have had many years of enjoyment. I know the value of full frame having shot with film years ago. I just don't know if mirrorless is a necessity. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm not interested in mirrorless at all.
Just because they created them doesn't mean I have to migrate to them.
Review the specs and operation and see if it's something you need compared to your current system.

I am not interested in mirrorless but you should check them out. You might like it.

I have the Canon R and find I am using it much more than either the 7D M II or the 80D. Still getting use to it, but like the full frame over the cropped sensors. Have added the Canon battery grip, and use the R adaptor without problems when I am using Canon brand lenses.

It’s all about whistles and bells, each has its own pros and cons. I’m a crop sensor shooter and I don’t view full frame as being a necessity.

Any camera will provide excellent results in daylight for static or slow moving subjects. Only special requirements, such as low light/night photograph or sports/birds-in-flight/action, require high performance/high priced cameras and lenses. What do you want to photograph? That will determine the camera/lens requirements and costs.

Thank you for your reply. I kind of got the impression after talking to a Canon rep. That mirrorless was not as important as full frame

You do know that there are full frame DSLRs, correct?
So if you want full frame, you are not restricted to mirrorless.

It’s not either-or (if that’s what you meant) - the two are not really related except what’s available from a given manufacturer. You can buy a FF DSLR or FF mirrorless from Canon. What you decide on will be driven by what you like to shoot, what lenses you already own and your budget. Please give us some information on those 3 things, and we’ll be able to provide some options and perhaps advice.

Mirrorless and Full-Frame is superb. Those mirrors are the chains holding back our photography.

But, as you contemplate such a change, consider your lens line-up. Are you prepared with FF lenses. You can adapt your EF-S lenses to the EOS-R options, but at a decreased resolution creating the same cropped-sensor results.

Yes I know. That is what I am considering to replace my Canon60D.
Thanks

I don't see it as necessity, it all depends what style camera you'd rather shoot with. The smaller full frame mirrorless or the larger full frame DSLR.
