I was saddened to read of the shooting at Pearl Harbor, especially with Christmas approaching. The shooter was a member of a submarine crew. I find that surprising because submariners are selected for their emotional stability. No motive has been discovered. He shot two people and then himself.

I certainly remember. I was born on December 7th...albeit a few years after the end of the war...1947. My father, who was a WWII vet used to joke (At least I 'd like to believe he was joking.) that my birthday was the second disaster in 6 years.

I wonder if the shooting was at the submarine memorial immediately adjacent to the Arizona memorial. My now-deceased mother-in-law's first husband died aboard the Snook in the China Sea. His name is on the plaque memorializing the tragedy. For anyone who hasn't made the pilgrimage to see the two memorials, I urge you to do so. It is a reminder of the gallantry of the members of our armed forces and of the loyalty they gave this country and each other. Several of the survivors chose to return upon their own passing to be buried at sea with their shipmates entombed below. One can almost feel the ghosts of those brave men.

Another shooting publicized, sensationalized, "glorified" -- and we wonder why they keep happening?

Yep, that's why they keep happening, because the press keeps reporting them...

Many do seem to be "copycat" acts, the perpetrators craving similar notariety and infamy.

So, based on the logic I’ve read above; if the Press just stops covering/reporting the corruption we see today in Government, it will stop. Whew! That is good news. Here I thought it was just going to keep getting worse. I will forward those remarks to my many friends in the press.
It is also good to know where the cause and responsibility for these despicable acts really is. Here I was thinking the blame was with the actor or those who incite hatred and devisiveness. When will I ever start to get things right?!!?
