Using ACR to remove color noise...
While experimenting with ACR sharpen vs other sharpen method I tumbled onto something rather interesting...
There are other methods that work just as well if not better depending on the image. ACR being the 'source' addressing noise issue there before entering PS CC can have serious benefits. Remember global adjustment first!!!
ACR sharpen is a great tool to remove color noise!!!!
1 - Original
2 - Color noise removed
3 - ACR sharpen slider used

Comment on my previous tip thread...
ALT key tip on this menu work on
- Sharpening sliders (Check out the weird mask created, similar in 'finding edges but way more detailed).
- Luminance sliders
Note that removing noise globally will dull an image quite a bit.
To prevent this effect, use a luminance mask.
I use a simple one:
Shift-Ctrl-Alt-2 three times, adding to the original mask.
On the ACR layer remove the existing mask if any
Mutate the selection created earlier by press down the ALt key and click on the mask icon. This creates a mask preventing the wide highlights from being affected.
If you have created a normal mask (clicked only on create mask) make sure the mask is selected (click on it) and then press CTRL-I top invert it.
Please note that I further adjust the mask using levels (Ctrl-L while on the mask edit mode)

Try this on one of your own image that has color noise due to under exposure, deep shadows or even a black background.

The short story or the long one?
