This past May I found myself ahead of 4014 on The Great Race to Ogden. Realizing that I can get off I-80 and get action shots of it against the background of wild, wonderful Wyoming I took the next exit. There I found a growing group of like minded folks with the same goal. Even a tour bus loaded with German nationals.
Everyone staked out their special spot, hoping to get that one great shot. As you know there is two sides of any rail line, the right side and the wrong side.
Conversing and waiting we suddenly found about the right and wrong side of the tracks when an east bound freight came through exactly at the same time 4014 came past.
This is a desolate part of Wyoming with very few residents. Two days later I was in the California Railroad museum in Sacramento when a couple struck up a casual conversation and mentioned seeing this on Facebook.
It was fun and I enjoyed my time then and again looking back at these pictures.

As long as you managed to get some good shots further down the line that becomes a fun story in the life of a rail fan.
Thank you for posting!

Here is a little tip. I always have a compass with me when I am on a train photoshoot. It allows me to determine on which side of the track that the sun will be favorable at the time I expect the train. If you had been on the sunny side of the track you would have both captured 4014 and had it in the best light.
