I called Canon today. Always great support
They sent me a link that allowed me to upload the three images I've included here and the tech on the phone said, he'd never seen the white flash of light but felt like it was probably a reflection.
Canon has three levels of maintenance. You have a minor, standard, and major at $139, $349 and $539. There's no guarantee until they actually open up the camera but he felt that a Shutter replacement would be in the standard repair category.
I asked about having the autofocus system for the 5D Mark 4 installed while they're working the camera buuut.... that's not going to happen.....
Thanks for everyones input!

Keep us posted what you / they figure out.
Don’t think I would invest that much in your old body...

This is definitely a broken shutter blade. DO NOT FIRE THE CAMERA FURTHER! This is a sure way to damage the low pass filter in front of the image sensor. I replace these all the time and recognize the familiar v shaped light pattern of the broken blade.
Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly reduced rates and would be glad to help.
I'd be more than happy to repair the camera for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message.

I stand corrected. Didn't seem like it would be a shutter issue, but what else would cause that anyway, huh? So, I learned something today. Glad you can take care of his shutter issue.
I've been a technician for over 30 years now and am glad to help if I can. I have access to all the parts and lots of experience installing them if necessary. I've actually replaced and re-calibrated thousands of shutters as well as thousands of other repairs. It's amazing how many repairs one can accumulate in 30 years.

These are good responses... Thank you. Still hoping to find that one Photographer that can confirm there's a simple inexpensive fix.
Any ideas why the light band disappears under strobe lighting & low ISO?
Maybe I can write Canon w attached photos??
When using a strobe, the shutter sync is when both curtains are completely open. During normal shutter operation, under ambient lighting conditions, the curtains are going to run through at their normal speeds to produce an even exposure. With one blade out of place, you will get additional light on that spot.
