Leaf Footed Bug Two - A bit different

Continuing to experiment with the Novoflex bellows lens arrangement (this is a true bellows lens, not a lens on a bellows although that's what I have it attached to).

I changed the lighting, diffusion and gave it a pastel paper colored background which produced a different effect than the first. I also changed the f/stop to 5.6 vs. f/11 used on the other for I had to keep in mind that the effective f/stop changes with the amount of magnification caused by the expansion of the bellows.

My first impression is that this combination is workable when the entire subject is zoomed into view although I have several other arrangements to do that, but hey, this was only $36 complete.

My goal was to illustrate the "leaf foot" which I posted in a magnified view earlier. If you look at the far rear leg you will see that it's the shape of a leaf toward its foot. The close rear leg is rotated just enough to make it difficult to see the leaf although if you look closely you can see the spurs on its leg and the claws that help it hold tight as they climb around.

As always, thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Good picture of the insect but not a fan of that pastel paper.

Jeff, I can relate and a choice of background can either enhance or spoil a subject. When they are too active they can be a distraction. Of course some colors compliment while others can contrast and the study of color is a science in itself. I guess one can't go wrong with black, grey or white as the default colors.

In a way I'm happy to be a man where my choice of wardrobe is limited to two or so colors where women have to be concerned with a myriad of colors and matching accessories.

Mark, some appear to turn out better than others however that is the joy of experimenting for I never know what the final result will be until it's processed. There are so many variables that a winning combination is much like getting all of the lottery numbers correct (although I haven't done that yet either!).

The good, as well as the bad, news is that winter is setting in and my camera and I will be nice and warm shooting something daily in the basement with my bottles of preserved specimens.
