My Camera Club has a subset of members who commit to sharing a photo each week. This shakes me out of my doldrums and forces me to take at least one photo worthy of sharing each week. Last week I took only two photos. The first was at f/13 but the DOF was too great and the background was distracting. The second was taken at f/4.5 and has softened the background. Both photos taken at the same sitting backlit from south window heavily overcast day 3:36 pm (1 1/2 hr before sunset at 48 deg 30 min N. I think the softer background produces a more enjoyable viewing experience. Do you agree?
Note: When I started photography is seemed to me that DOF extending to infinity was a necessity for a good photo. It only taken me. about 45 years to "get over" that misconception.
Oh I couldn't agree more, Photogen, and I love this beautiful post to prove your point!
Very nice! That is a hard lesson to learn for many. I still struggle with it but the difference is amazing.
An excellent comparison and lesson.
