Low-cost L-Bracket

For all those who want an L-Bracket without breaking the bank, here's a new item at B&H:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1478358-REG/camvate_c2038_arca_style_quick_release.html?utm_medium=Email%201763102&utm_campaign=Newsletter&utm_source=Newsletter%20191106&utm_content=Retail&utm_term=Arca-Type-Quick-Release-L-Plate&encEmail=5E46442E3066B4F1D6AA6CCF3744ACAA29F1B823921C6E548BA125F0C9988408

Pretty handy 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 sockets on the bottom if you don't have an Arca-Swiss tripod head.

Please, RSS and Kirk devotees, save the comparisons. "Useful" doesn't need to cost a lot.

You are what your equipment says you are.

Does your equipment say that you are a jerk? Ask it.

LOL, you started it, so name calling is quite unfortunate.

There are lower cost L brackets that work just as well. I am not one to spend a thousand dollars for a tripod.
You need to measure the distance to your battery door and make sure the generic L bracket doesn't block it. Also "2" silver retainer screws are better than one and prevents camera from sliding off if ball head gets loose.

You get what you pay for, and you never get what you don't pay for.

That being said, I have RRS L plates, and I bought a used camera with a Benro L Plate, similar to the one in the link but a little better. And no, there is no comparison - the cheaper one flexes in portrait mode mainly because it is a two piece device (the good ones are machined from one piece of metal), and your $20 special has no means of keeping the camera from rotating other than the friction pad which is attached to the bracket with an adhesive that will likely fail in a couple of years, and often the mounting screw is either too long or too short. Too long a screw can go into the body can cause camera damage. Also, the metal used in the screw in the cheaper bracket is usually very soft, not the HSS material used on the better brackets.

At least my Benro has a lip to counter rotation on the rubber pad. But it does mar the bottom of the camera, something the custom-machined RRS KIrk and other more expensive brackets don't do.

Exactly. If you have to fiddle with your gear in order to get a stable shot, and miss something, is it worth it?

There are plenty of cheap, universal "L" brackets in the market place.
What, if anything, makes this one worthy of it's own thread?

Easy! Just wanted to pee in the ears of those who are willing to pay for quality!
