What would be illogical in what I said? Of course all files are subject to LOSS if media fails. Files can also be corrupted so they are not readable. But the original conversation was about a photographic image losing detail and other IMAGE properties.

Yes, the original conversation was about losing detail in JPEGs.
Illogical as an explanation as to why the company does not want JPEGs. The TIFFs, RAW, etc. would be just as susceptible to loss if the reason was media.

NOT True you can open a jpg as much as you want to view ! what they really mean is Every time you ( save ) a JPG file there will be some loss in quality after a period of time Mike

Based on your comment and with really know the host of this company, I get the impression "they" want the RAW images and in turn not give the photographer the rights or credit he or she deserves. I would avoid this scam.

I think we all agree that merely opening a JPG does not degrade it. However, the OP said that the archive doesn't accept JPG's, not that they wanted RAW files.

Correct, a possible erroneous assumption.

A friend submitted an otherwise desirable collection of jpg photos to a non-profit archive only to have them rejected because of issues with jpg: The archive said that each time a jpg photo is opened, data is lost, with the final result the disappearance of the file. So the archive accepts no jpg materials. I'd never heard this before, but wonder!

What WILL they accept?

What if you open a JPG and never close it?
What if you down load a jpg and never open it. How will you know if it degrades over time.

Since the original question was answered on page one, two, and three, I figured it was time for some new ones.

If a JPG was opened in a forest, and no one was there to look at it . . . .

A JPEG does not change even when saved. Only if a change has been made to the image is a Save done.

ANY save changes the file. A close does not.

Why do people type without punctuation we would not know were thoughts end and begin with punctuation it is so much easier to read stuff when it is punctuated it doesnt require rereading to figure where the punctuation MIGHT be to make it easily understandable one should use punctuation
