Another steampunk composite. My own images apart from the airship which is a free web image (now containing my crew). Your thoughts and critique gratefully accepted.

I like your people and the air ship. I would rethink the background. Not sure what but something different, maybe early 1900 New York. I don't think it needs the orange glow look, maybe evening blue cast. Was this another form the workshop?

This is a different photoshoot Jim, another Victorian pumping station but near London. I can’t do New York as I’ve not been there (so no pics) - I only use web pics for minor items when I’m feeling lazy! With regard to the colours, that’s just personal preference, in this case with a connection to the heat of the steel works, but other colours would work in a different way perhaps. I guess it’s failed as you don’t empathise with the intention.

Great idea, composition, and technical skill. I wonder about the lighting of the airship. The bag, gondola, and fins seem to have different lighting. I think the airships elements would have roughly the same lighting as the cylindrical tank to the right of the man's hip. The woman's cap might also be lit similarly.

I love the mystery and the fun!

I was trying to give the impression that the glow shone through the bag Bob, rather than reflected off it. I see what you’re saying regarding the uneven lighting on the rest of the airship. The cap does have an attempt at dodging but it doesn’t show up well, probably needs to be heavier. As always, I’m grateful for your pro eye.

You certainly do challenging things! I THINK translucent in this instance would be even, except for a small, slightly darker area in the middle.

I thought I'd try to do that, since, as I wrote, that seemed a challenge. It was. I hope it helps a bit.

I thought, with the dark cloud right of the bright light, the dark spot would be more to the rear - think I’d be satisfied with just brightening my attempt to give the effect as you’re showing it. I’ll try that and decide which I prefer pre printing. There is a danger the airship will become too eye-catching - it’s intended as a secondary, just to add ‘steampunkness’ to the image. The amount of translucency will depend on the bag’s material and thickness, so we have some leeway, methinks. Thanks for getting the grey matter to kick-in Bob.

I agree with you. Too much airship detracts from your image. You are also right, I think, about where the darkening would appear. It's I who thanks you for stirring up my little gray cells.

Maybe that's why we sometimes see things differently Bob - you have gray cells whereas mine are grey.
I lived in a Village way back that had a Grey's Road one end and Gray's Road the other, according to highways signage!

Excellent work...love the elements of past, and present, and the couple possibly scurrying to get back to where they came from!! The time traveler airship fits the overall theme...print and hang!!

Thanks for posting. I like your original. Colors perfectly accent the steel mill. The background, including the airship . Bob, your brightening of the air ship, IMHO, tends to make it the main focal point in the photo and, I think, tries to brighten up an intentionally dark image.

Just my opinion.

Honestly, I think the only thing that seemed (off) was the clarity of the people. I'm thinking maybe adding some fog? The atmosphere seems dark and "polluted" (can't think of another term for it) and they look tack sharp.

I like the image, I just thought that one thing kind of stood out, so take it for what it's worth.

Nice job.
