UP 4014-Arriving in Luling, Texas for a 30 minute stop-Nov. 6, 2019

Where the locomotive was to stop at in town was not good for me to shot images.
Moved out west two or three blocks and found this nice open space.
In these images, the train is slowing down to stop.
I used a high shutter duration as I wanted everything sharp (I froze the wheel motion....).
While waiting for the train to arrive, someone said after this trip there were no plans to run the train again.
I was surprised by that. I hope they were wrong.

Nice shots ... but I hope they are going to continue running 4014 from time to time ... I want to get out to shoot the old girl one day. Thanks for sharing the images. She's a beautiful piece of machinery. Nice detail on download.

Thank you, Frank!!

I stumbled into a new technique for me.
I did shot video at the same time with my cell phone.
I held the dslr in my right hand and clicked away. Held the cell phone in landscape position with my thumb supporting the bottom of the phone.
My fingers supported the top of the phone in the left hand. I rested my left thumb on top of the dslr lens.
This two handed "rig" became self supporting.
As the I followed the train to my right, my two hand rig followed perfectly (well, this time it did).
So, I got both, still shots and video.
When I get the video done, I'll post it.

You sure shot it from a better place. We were in the thick of it and it was a mess. Your photos turned out really nice, Pat.

Remarkable, great shots Pat without all the "foamers" btwn you and the train. Hopefully will be a fortunate when she rolls through here on the 20th (maybe will be snowing and cold, keeping the meek and faint of heart inside....one can only hope)

If those people are lucky they got to see the train and also eat at Luling City Market BBQ restaurant.

Great shots. Sure do miss not being on the mainland to see the big boys in action. Hopefully they will still be running next year when I get back on it. Hope to spend about a month traveling and catching some good train action.

The Unión Pacífic Big Boy locomotive will be running again. Through its Senior Manager-Heritage Equipment, Ed Dickens has provided some generalized information about future plans for the Big Boy. The locomotive will stay in its home shop in Cheyenne from November 27, 2019, until some time, to be determined, in 2020. My guess is that it will head for Portland snd Seattle vía Boise, then down the Coast via Eugene and into the San Francisco Bay Area. After that, it may go down the Coast Line to the LA, CA, area, or possibly head east over Donner Pass and then East to Ogden snd beyond to Cheyenne.

All this is a guess, but the destinations I’ve mentioned are all on the UP and Big Boy can run over all of the lines.
