Hummers are very difficult to shoot. I spend hours shooting thru my open kitchen window and have hundreds of pictures. Sometimes I just get lucky. Nat
The photograph with the multiple hummers doesn't happen in my yard. Where ever two or more are gathered in his name you can bet there's gonna be a fight.
hi all,
yep as teritorial these guys are i was so surprsed to see them all together . This was last year and i had so many of the hummers they would let me sit oustide on the steps and photograph them as long as i didnt make any sudden movements, this year theyve been scarce with the heat were having in Texas.
nice shot Nat , i just love these little guys keep on shooting them .
Since we're on the subject of hummers I thought I'd share a few of mine for comment.
I prefer not to shoot them on the feeders I think it takes away from their artist image.
Just my thought.

Wow Sherri, 5 humming birds at the same time!!! That's amazing, I am sure your hands were shaking with excitement as you took that shot! Well done!

yes Perry i was so excited you just dont know to get that many hummers in a shot .
As for shooting the Hummers on the feeders id love to get some in the trees et or anywhere else but i jsut cant do that im stuck at home so there for i practice and practice with shutter speed and Apt. allot .
I am planning on setting up some branches sticking up out of the ground in the back yard for them to land on and hope to get better background shots that way but some people dont have the luxory of gettting out trying to track these guys down or travel to where they are etc. please everyone keep that in mind.
HI Dennis,
beautiful shots , would you share where you took these photos .
Sherry a lot of times they sit perched on a limb close by, they are, obviously hard to see, unless you get lucky or watch when they take off and see where they go..good luck
Dennis what camera & settings did you use to catch the hummers?

Since it's your place, why not put some flowers behind your feeder, or move your feeder toward your flower bed if you have one?
Another idea would be to use Paintshop Pro or Photo shop to edit the hummers and you can put a beautiful flower bed scene behind it with a blur so as to give your picture an effect that looks like you focused directly on the birds and your feeder... Just a thought. It's not cheating, it's part of photography to be creative in your presentation. It's art. :) I sent a humming bird or 2 in this thread somewhere, can't seem to find it though...
Will resend...
I cropped this one and enhanced the pic to make him more visable in these flowers.
These were taken from inside the nature center, it wasn't easy setting the focus with glare from the glass, but I managed.
