Thinking of you. Have you thought of some medical assistance to help get you over the hump? It’s sure helped me tremendously.

There are many suggestions here so you've got some new ideas. You might want to consider doing "self assignments" that you make before going to your park or wherever. Use a particular lens, or camera setting, objects in the park or people, or.....
You can put as much time into the planning and practicing for each assignment as required to keep you focused on where you've decided to go next time out.
Best of luck and have fun

"I must be the only member here who doesn't have access to things worth photographing."
Look around you, I bet you have plenty of subjects to photograph. If you use a flash put it on your camera, use a modifier or bounce the light and photograph pets or members of the family. Some very nice portraits will reward you. Your backyard should have plenty of things to photograph if you have learned to see photographically.

"I have mobility issues although, I push myself daily and am up to most of a mile a day."
You are doing your part and the mobility issues will be soon a thing of the past.

"We do have a municipal park, but it is more of a picnic spot and really isn't scenic."
If within your possibilities go back again, early morning and late in the day. Look around you, any flowers? A body of water that could be of interest? Any tree or trees that could make a nice shot? What about people? Sunrise or sunset?

Annie Leibovitz learned to shoot portraits photographing friends and members of her family. Plenty of subjects at home to photograph specially frontyard and backyard. Because you cannot see what is around you now your eyes will not be trained when you are fully recovered. You have to start now. If you can find a copy of "Photography and the Art of Seeing" by Freeman Patterson, famous Canadian photographer and educator, he will open your eyes to a world that will make you a better photographer.

Good morning Bob -

I knew all it would take was a simple call for some help and you can see just how many individuals are very likely friends and very willing to offer their advice. I am getting to the same situation with age, decreasing mobility and Prostate cancer. I have been trying to not wear myself out trying to get as many photo ops as time dictates but I will not slow down until I have no other choice. I just purchased a Nikon D850 and their 200-500 telephoto so I really have to get as much use as is possible out of these two beauties. I guess I'm rambling too but what the heck ?

All the best to you and yours and keep on shooting,

Terry

My Dr. Has told me that most likely I'll be able to drive by Summer of 2020. While I'm happy about that, I hate car shopping. I'm not complaining, mind you, I just miss using my camera. I do thank God for the blessings I do have. Now, I just need to find a local Church that is like the one that I went to as a youngster. I think it's gonna be hard to find.

Anyway, I apologize for rambling on.

There are some really creative ideas that fellow Hogs have offered ... amazing ideas really. What I'm most taken with out of this post is the level of caring, concern & support that is flowing out of this loose group of people who have some interest in photography. This is one of the most amazing things to me ... that Hogs ... most of them at any rate ... care about others. I tip my hat to all of you ... & to Bob ... I hope you will focus on 1 or 2 of the suggestions each day ... give them a try ... good luck both in your photography & in healing. And to the Hogs who responded ... thank you for making this such a great place to be connected with.

Bob, I’m a humanist so won’t go down the god road but do understand how it comforts many people. The reason for entering this conversation is to ask if you are vegan. I suspect not. Now you don’t want to change without some medical advice but eating a plant-based diet, whatever our age or state of health, is a positive step. Forgive me for promoting my own blog but today I published a post called Dogs Are Meat-Eaters and you read it here: https://learningfromdogs.com/2019/11/06/dogs-meat-eaters/

Best wishes, Paul

Thanks for the tip on your blog to watch The Gamechangers. Since a truly healthful diet (vegan) requires giving up not only meat but all forms of dairy, fish, and anything made with ground grain like bread and pasta (whole grains only) plus a lot of peeling and chopping to prepare tasty vegetarian dishes, I'll pass. I don't want to give up my aged cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese, nor do I want to never eat bread again. And I'm not going to put fake milk in my morning cappuccino.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It doesn't have to be a person, park, field and stream.
Something that inspires or makes you "smile".

Oh Yeah...very good advice.

Jumped cold turkey into this state of being about a dozen years ago and have found it liberating. Be forewarned that it is a major adjustment to one's digestive system, mine took almost two years to not have me "work" to make it a silent part of everyday life.

Hi Bob,
I fully understand your desire to get 'out and about' again. I'm experiencing similar situations. In my inability to get around as much as I want/used to, I've concentrated more recently on post processing some of the many photos I've taken in the past. My main 'go to' software is Photoshop ELEMENTS, which does all I usually require and it's fulfilling after spending time on various photos to see them more or less 'come alive'. Pretty soon, I'll need more wall space:o)
It's helped me spend my time still in the photo field and when possible I'll snap a shot or two when away from home with someone at an interesting place. Good luck also in your search for the church you seek. We all need all the help we can get, and that's a great direction you're aiming at. God Bless you!

Bob, it's easy to get in the funk, especially as winter approaches. As far as photography goes, I see there are already many pages full of suggestions so mine won't be original. Besides macro, try some still-life photography. If you have room (don't need much) in the house set up a small area with a table and a tripod for the camera. There are a lot of subjects for still-life photography: vases, nicknacks, straw flowers, food items, tools, really anything. You can play around with lighting, blurred backgrounds, focus stacking and things like that. It can be fun, challenging and educational. Please post whatever you decide to do. Wish you well!
