A few from Blue Ridge Parkway

I am just back from a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway to capture some of the Fall color. We apparently were about a week too early for the peak but there were some nice shots. Keep in mind that I am 78 years old and cannot handle the hiking trails, so all were from near the overlooks. We started from Asheville NC and traveled to Roanoke VA. The last shot is the view from the rear porch of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home just outside Charlottesville VA

Very nice! Your 2nd photo puts me in mind of the bristle cone pine that has been photographed probably thousands of times. Only its about 3000 miles away in California.
My wife and I had wanted to make the run down to the BRP this fall but, the best laid plans and all that.
Thank you for posting those. We can at least visit vicariously.

The gnarly tree is my favorite of a fine series.

Curiously, I traveled from Roanoke thru Asheville just a week later on my way to the Smokies. Most areas were Peak-to-Past Peak and by Nov 1st many-to-most leaves were down. Hard to catch the chromatic rotation just right but I enjoyed the images you were able to get.

Very nice! I can sympathize with the inability to hike--I'm almost 82 and have the same problem.

Thanks, Rich. It is a bit farther from Seattle . The big difference between my tree and the Bristlecone is that one of them is still alive.

Thanks, photophile. It only took about 7 different angles and zoom settings to get it.

Glad you enjoyed the set.

In this day and age, the weather makes it even more difficult to catch the rotation. Storms hit the area the day (10/29) I flew home from the trip and were undoubtedly the reason that much of the color was on the ground.
