My last three posts, “Halloween Groaner”, “Yellow Rose”, and “Popular Photography Winners” did not appear in the daily digest following being posted. This is a frequent occurrence for me. In every case, my posts appeared in “My Topics”, the “Newest Topics”, and in the “Newest Pictures” sections as appropriate. I queried admin on this a couple of times but I’m not sure I understood the response. Any one else experience this. Tia.
There are only 35 spots in the digest for Photo Gallery topics each day. But there are 50 - 100 new topics created.
As to what goes into the digest, it's mostly based on the traffic generated the day of posting (which is the day prior to the digest, except for "upcoming"). Traffic is based on buddy list (those who follow specific members) and those who spend a lot of time on the site, along with - I assume - interest in topic title or subject of the photo (for those using "newest pictures" to browse). Also, not everyone receives exactly the same digest since the forum has worldwide membership and topics are posted throughout the 24-hour period.
Where did you initially post "Halloween Groaner?" It is in general chit-chat now and shows as being posted today. The Digest wouldn't show it 'til tomorrow, the 23rd.

Yes, “Chit Chat.” My mistake, thought I posted this yesterday.
Whenever this question comes up (3 times in the past week or two as I recall), several of us urge members to discard the digest and to use "Newest Topics" at the top of any page. Those are sorted by newest first, not by popularity or most recent comment. And it is
all postings, not "selected for you."
If folks want to do this, they should go to "all sections" at the bottom of the page, click subscribe to all sections of interest (and unsubscribe to any you may not care about that were automatically included in your membership), and then you have one-stop shopping when you click "newest topics." For main discussion forum this means you also have the opportunity to view topics that don't already have 20 comments and solutions
FWIW, I read 'Groaner' earlier today in Upcoming Topics' & I did groan!
Another note: "Popular Photography Winners" is in Links-Resources. It seems there is no Digest area for that section. Anytime you create a topic that is merely a link inviting others to leave UHH, your topic will probably end up in the black hole of Links-Resources, especially if you posted it initially in main discussion forum. Maybe general chit-chat is looser?

Thanks to comments from Linda from Maine, I think I have a much better understanding of how all the pieces of the forum fit and function. Tks Linda.

Linda, I would like to ask a closely related question. I use Newest Topics as you and others suggest. But I have observed a number of what seems to be
recurring posts. Repeats of something posted a day or so previously. I look back over Newest Topics to find the original, but I never can. Is someone taking pity on the OP and “bumping” the original post to make it appear again? Or is it just my imagination? Thanks for your response! To DeanS, very glad you got your answer!

There's a few folks, for reasons we can all judge for ourselves, that have started posting the exact same posts into multiple sections. As an example, if you subscribe to both the true macro and photo gallery, you might see posts in the list of 'Newest Topics' for the subject name, with the same pictures, into both sections at roughly the same time. Close examination of the sections will show the different sections being used.

That is a valid possibility, Paul, but in these cases both the original and #2 posts seem to come from the Main Photography Section.

"Newest topics" are posted in
date/time stamp order of when posted to UHH, with newest first. There is no bumping and no pity
The bold green "new topic" flag will continue to be shown until you either view the topic or click the "mark all topics as read."
In main discussion, there are frequently topics with similar names and subjects, but from different members. One final thought: "Newest Topics" is a label at the top of any UHH page and includes all the sections to which you have subscribed or that came with your membership. Just wanted to make sure we're talking about the same feature.

Look what I found in the digest this morning from our OP, Dean
btw, four of the six are from
jerryc41, so people should take up any chit-chit section complaints with him.
