I don't understand by digital cameras have to be so big and heavy!
They are big but not heavy enough. Case in point I have the Df like you and I think it's too big yet too light.
Because they put a lot of electronics and mirrors and stuff in ‘em. They add up. Sorta like many: a million here and a million there, eventually, you have a lot of money.
Most of the 'bigness' that I see in this pic is the 'gunsight' device on top, the 'handle' on the bottom, the device that attaches that handle to the camera, and the monster zoom lens.
Also consider that a camera body must be a certain minimum size to accommodate the size of the sensor, have room for the mirror, and enough more empty space inside the box for all the 'bells & whistles' that are demanded these days.

I agree. I traded my Nikon bodies and Glass for an Olympus OM-D E M1 MkII as the Nikons where too heavy for my chronic back problems. I realize that I may be giving up some IQ but I really didn't have much of a choice. I looked at some cropped sensor cameras where the bodies where smaller but the lenses where still too heavy. The Oly is quit a piece of technology with very good reviews for their lenses and so far I have not been disappointed .
OP: I was joking. After I added that stuff, I thought, Davey, what the heck are you doing?
I kind of thought it was a joke. The giant long lens was the obvious clue. Three quarters of the weight is in that lens.

When I first started to learn photography, I had a ZenitE with a 55mm lens. It was like carrying a brick every day. Then I moved over to a Canon AE-1. It too was a brick. When I picked up an EOS Rebel 2000 I hardly knew I was carrying it. It was as light as a feather. Now I have a 5D. I don't mind the weight. I was going to pick up a 1Dx but it didn't feel right in my hands!

I upgraded from a Zorki 4k to the ZenitE, but they were beautiful bricks
Interesting camera choices!

Attach a brick to the bottom of the camera. Or an anvil, if the brick isn't enough.
If you don't like the size or weight switch to APS-C or micro 4/3.
weight can be a stabilising factor, think target / sniper rifle
