Importing photos from SD card

I'm having problems lately with the Photos app in Windows 10. I usually put my card in a card reader and the photos show up as thumbnails to import. Now I don't get the thumbnails and the photos do not import. The only thing that's changed with my computer is that I installed the PhotoLemur program. I have since removed the program as the issues started right after installing. Any suggestions besides Lightroom? I don't use Lightroom or Photoshop. The images still show up on the camera screen, so I don't think the memory card is the issue. What program can I use to import photos now? Thanks in advance.

Fetzler's suggestion is probably the easiest, Windows File Explorer. It is simple and works perfectly fine.

Copy and Paste works for me, in fact I usually have to tell windows not to import photos.

When you insert the card reader, windows 10 should ask what you want to do with that reader or give you options. If so tell it to view files, then cut and paste them to a folder on your computer. You can go the the apps and designate a default program to open your photos.

Card readers can be very finicky. Sometimes mine works and sometimes it doesn’t. I also have Windows 10.

However (stupid me) I recently realized that my laptop of 4 years has a slot on the left side edge that has a SD slot. I now use that and it works every time.

Maybe your PC has a SD slot?

I have a desktop PC, I really hate laptop computers. I usually use the built-in card reader on my PC, but it's having the same issues as my USB card reader. My antivirus software says my computer is clean, but I'm not so sure. Maybe the latest update from Windows was buggy.

I use a program called Downloader Pro from Breeze systems to get images from my card reader to my windows laptop and desktop. During download the file name or each image gets changed to names determined by me using dates, numbers and job codes. A job code could be “smith wedding” and the dates could be 2019_09_19. If you shot with Nikon Nikon transfer does the same thing and is part of Nikon View NX-I, free as a download from nikonusa.com. Joe

Always select the card from the list of drives, right-click and select 'Eject'. This step will overcome most issues with SD cards and card readers on Windows machines.

Yes, this is very important. Always ask windows when it is safe to eject. On Windows 10 you should have an icon on the bottom right of your screen that looks like a flash drive, click on it and select the card or card reader and wait until windows says it is safe to remove.

It's a Problem...

I do some Photo Work for a Friend of Mine who Works for the Boy Scouts, & a Co Worker has a Card Reader which wouldn't Work on the Computer, By Mine did on the Same Computer, I don't know if her Card Reader was Outdated, or it was the Computers, & what I Heard the Computers in the Local Scouting Office were From the G.W. Bush Era.

You Figure.
